Marriage in EVE could be neat.. ability for couples to have limited access to each other's skills, shared hangar, tax shelter.. but since this is EVE everyone will just marry their own alts.

That can be prevented with some simple coding, no doubt.

Whenever someone on a gaming forums promotes a "simple" idea they really have no idea how difficult it really is.

It's the same code logic that keeps your alts from training at the same time.

In short,

IF character is from same account THEN marriage = null.

People come to this game to escape (the reality of) their marriages.

You forgot the part where it's very common-place to make a separate account for an alt to multi-box with.

of course they do and of course they have capsuleer-kids later on.
And some do restrain themselves when they feel like killing their kids.

I was playing Rift when they allowed marriages. First time I have ever encountered something like that in a game. There was no game winning benefit to it, just fluff.

But I did notice that it was something RL couples who played the game enjoyed. There was even a wedding ceremony instance you could go to with all your friends present. And rings as part of your wardrobe.

Assuming RL couples play EVE, would it benefit EVE socially for marriage to exist in New Eden? Or is EVE too "hardcore" for such nonsense?Pirate

[The marriage ship could have a "Just Married" sign on it with a trail of tied up tin cans following afterwards.]

Unless WIS ever gets off the ground, the social aspects on EVE will be limited IMO.Ugh
it's hard to feel virtually "connected" to other people when all you can see are ships and chat.

In Star Wars Galaxies I once married a char with a helmet on. Turned out when the person took the helmet off it was a male human. With me being a male rodian our marriage didnt last throughout the night. Atleast he got just as scared when I took off my helmet... He thought I was a female humanOops

Anyway... This can only end bad for EVE!

Civil unions would be necessary in EVE to make this really take off. Or we can debate the definition of marriage, if we must use that word. We already have gun control debates (highsec carebears vs everyone else) so why not?

Don't worry about civil unions, bring in non-consensual marriage.

The possibilities are endless.

We're able to switch clones when we die. We can interact with ships on a neural basis, making us capsuleers hardcore compared to "normal" pilots.

We cant change our gender...

Until then I will not marry. Despite the obvious advantages of a lesbian couple, my imagination will get me a divorce before we're even married.
