I can't frollow the tutorials

I'm a raw beginner and I can't follow Aura:
1 At the beginning, Bubble in chat list? where?
2 Agents tab of station menu? What station menu? What Agents menu? Nothing on neocom menu.
3 Agent missions in upper left? Nothing appears there. (On another avatar I generated a picture of Aura by accident there, can't reproduce it.)
4 On a slightly more advanced avatar, at the combat instruction, I'm told to find the acceleration gate? Where? What does it look like?
I apologize for my blindness, but I've seen easier tutorials. With arrows?

Check the "Surviving EVE Online" video series from Seamus Donohue of EVE University. They're basically a walkthrough of the tutorial missions, which should help you pick up the things that you have missed.

1. The speech bubble in the toolbar at the top of the chat window (usually at lower left by default).
2. Panel at right headed Station Services, tab labelled - guess what? - 'Agents' (between the 'Guests' and 'Offices' tabs).
Alternatively, click Help (blue question mark) and then click 'Show Career Agents'.
3. No agent mission will appear at top left until you have accepted a mission.
4. The acceleration gate will be shown in your Overview - select it and click Approach.

Since nobody could be bothered up to here, a sincere "Welcome to EVE"!

It can be hard to figure out things in the beginning.

Do not despair and come back asking questions here. There's a warm and welcoming atmosphere in NCQA.

EVE community is overall good. But rest assured, that they are going to gank, pod and troll you. They'll try to steal from you, extort and scam you. Take it with humour and return them the favour in good spirit.

Remove standings and insurance.

Also, every new player is automatically a member of the "Rookie"-channel for the first thirty days every time he logs in.
This channel was created especially for new players and is moderated 24/7 for quick and easy help and answering questions just like yours. (You are free, of course to ask questions here as well Smile)

Finally, don´t get frustrated, in truth we have all been where you are now and ultimately, it´s quite satisfying finally getting head around these things. Perseverance will pay off!

To explain further on that:

1) Every Chat-box has a toolbar on the top with little icons like "a" and "A", a cog and something that looks like a speech bubble; click on that one and it will open an menu to enter the name of a new chat channel.

2) If you are docked, then there will be a window on the right of your screen showing various icons for the available station services. Below that are three tabs, one of them saying "Agents". Click that one and it will show you the "Available" and the "Not available" agents in this station.

3) Once you click on an "Available" agent, he will offer you a (tutorial) mission, if you "accept" this mission, the information can be seen on the upper left of your screen.

4) If you have accepted a mission you have to undock. Once in space, if the mission is in the same system you are currently in, you can right-click in space and on the drop-down menu select "encounter" and click on the option there. This will warp you to the mission. There you will usually find an acceleration gate which will send you into the mission "room" (click on the gate in your overview and select "activate gate" just like using stargates).
If you are not in the right system then you have to go there. To find the right system click on your journal on the Neocom (the column of icons on the left of your screen) and select "Missions" to open the mission briefing. There you can right-click again on the target system to "Set destination" (when in doubt, right-click Big smile). This will set a course to the target system, showing the stargates to use in yellow on your overview. (you can of course already do that when you are talking to the agent and he offers you that mission).

Optional 5) If still in trouble, don´t hesitate to ask in chat, for the most part, people are friendly enough to shower you with help. If you act particularly clue- and helpless there is even a good chance to get showered with a few million ISK. Cool

I agree Schmata. This is a very hard to resist rule.

OP, the things you say (speech bubble / agent tab / acceleration gate) are quite obvious to spot.
Tutorial also highlights how buttons look like.

Only issue I see that isnt easy to spot is the Mission guidance in space as if you forget to accept the mission its not there and that is something that is easily missed.

Also. Tutorials are 200x times better then the old ones. You should have started back then when the tutorial was:

1. Here is your ship.
2. Here is a crappy gun.
3. Here is a NPC trying to kill you.
4. End of tutorial, good luck and go forth and multiply.

If you already have this much problems with EVE...It might not be the game for you OR you are trying to rush too much. Take your time, EVE aint a sprint, its a marathon.

Watch some youtube videos of people running missions. Click Here to get started. You may want to skip the character creation part. The missioning part will show you the answers to your questions.

Also, this is nothing like the other games that you've played in the past. READ THE MISSION BRIEFING CAREFULLY. In EVE you pay for your mistakes with loss of assets. MAKE SURE THAT YOU KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO WHEN YOU GET THERE.

Good luck.

On the top border of the chat window there is a small speech bubble, like above character heads in comics and graphic novels. Click on it.

Benedict17 Huren wrote:

NEOCOM on the left, station menu on the right when docked in a station. In the hangar view at least.

If you are in the Captain's Quarters when docked, I think Agents are available from a console on the left side of the table in front of the sofa. I rarely ever use the Captains Quarters.

When you have a mission, you can click on the info panel for agents, which looks like a man in a hat (at the top-edge of the screen on the left). This toggles hiding the agent menu (grey = click to hide, white = click to reveal).

The icon to the the left of each info panel often has a menu when you click on it.

Rule of EVE: When all else fails, right-click it! Nearly everything in EVE has a right-click drop-down context menu box, though radial menus are slowly replacing those (left-click and hold momentarily for a radial menu (circular) to pop-up, if one exists).

This is actually explained in the tutorial.

An acceleration gate shows on your overview as such. They are hard to miss. They are large structures made from multiple Y-shaped segments connected by arcs of energy. They are essentially rail guns (or slingshots ... hence the Y-shape) that shoot your ship across space.

YouTube - How to use an acceleration gate - I Google-ed for this.

Yup I remember starting this game and before I logged into eve made sure the second machine had google on it. The forums were more ruthless and blood thirsty back then if you did not do your own research first. Now no one seems self reliant to find out for themselves.

As to the 6 lane interstate ... lets hope it does not end in a mini map with arrows pointing you in the direction.Sad

I'm happy with the 6-laner as long as it leads straight off the edge if people decide to use cruise control and go make a cup of coffee at the back of the RV.

Think of the steep learning 'cliff' as the first of many tests designed to weed out those not cut out for such an intricate, challenging and detailed world as New Eden.

Like the ultimately pointless and repetitive tasks they give to new recruits in top tier military forces to continually test the will of new members.

Those who cant cut it get cut and sent to regular line infantry Regiments.

Those who cant make the grade in EvE leave for - 'W'onderful 'O'ther 'W'orlds. (See what I did there).

The fact that you are here asking questions my friend, means that so far: You make the cut!

Welcome.

I started off with similar problems to you mate but it soon passes, and before you know it you are flipping from menu to menu very easily.
