New Lighting Models - Could be Better

I'm pretty disappointed with these new lighting models. I run everything on maximum settings and before this change the ships lighting looked impressive. Before the lighting was gritty and realistic, this new change has bought a big downgrade to almost all of them in my humble opinion.

I understand this is still work in progress, although I hope that they can get the ships back to the former glory as soon as possible.

Could be worse. Stop complaining.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

Are you absolutely certain you got the process down? I'll break it down for you:

  1. Turn on your computer and monitor
  2. Start Eve
  3. Turn the graphics up
  4. Make sure your eyes are open (the eyelids need to not be covering them)
  5. Look at the monitor with your eyes

I'm having no problems with the graphics getting worse on my end, so if those instructions don't work for you, you should probably see a doctor.

I dont think CCP is done yet. The new lighting model was implemented for pending graphics changes. Hoepfull we will see new textures for stations/ships and other neat effects.

This is only the initial pass of linear lighting. Many effects that one might expect in a more modern engine have yet to be implemented in EVE's client. It's getting there, though. Smile

Anyone else notice how the new lighting affects the ships but not the guns on the ship? Lol

Most of the ships look decent IMO, except for the damn Noctis.

Seriously, it looks like some kind of plastic tonka toy now.

7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided. --Eve New Player Guide

The lighting does affect the guns, but the coloration of the ships no longer does. That is, guns don't look golden on Amarr ships, gray+blue on Caldari ships, etc. It's a known problem.

what is realistic? i'm not being a jerk with 'its a computer game", i just wonder what things in space'd actually look like

would they be really bright on one side, where the sun was, and really dark on the other side

You may want to get your eyes checked, many of the ships look like crap.

Sure, the ones that already did, like the Tormentor and Bantam, won't stop looking like crap no matter what light you cast on them.

Nope, most of the ships look like crap now. Have you actually looked at them before jumping to the forums?

Hoping that the next new update will fix it as the old models were far superior.

Yes, the guns look pretty dull now. While the textures are better, the colors are definitely off on some ships (Amarr). Ship running lights (in particular blinking ones) are non-existent on quite a few.

Good point, but for the most part you won't notice in actual game play, as you'll be zooming out to watch the sky and locate hostiles in between hitting tactical view and maps etc. The graphics are nice but not a huge part of the game.

Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction...

All the new modeling and lighting CCP is doing to EVE is just awesome. EVE IMO is the best looking space game I've played. And it's only the beginning of the improvements.

Yes, the lighting is better (overall). However, quite a few of the colors have been "muddied" (Amarr golds and reds in particular), we've lost the ship running/blinking lights and the turrets are a downgrade considered to what was in Rubicon 1.2. I want my old Caldari Navy turrets back!

It's quite exciting, isn't it? When everything is done, EVE will truly be the best looking sci-fi title out there. Cool

One might have the urge to mention Star Citizen, but that game isn't even out yet. To be honest, from what I've seen so far, the overall art direction in that title isn't as appealing as EVE's. That could always change, though.
