Why can't we dock our ships in a similar way to this ourselves?

I would just like to see large/capitol ships dock on the outside, leaving room for the smaller ones to fly in.
(There are already docking points on the outside of the stations)

Would just show an animation of your ship passing through and docking, so no need to worry about bumpers. All while allowing you to do the usual station functions.

Too complicated for EVE players. God forbid if you would have to use Joystick for it. Lol

Even a simplified version of this would be a blast, but between the freighters and bumping it would probably be mission impossible at stations like Jita.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

Docking in a rotating station like that looks nice visually but in practice nobody would ever do it.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

We could microjumpdrive into station onto particular position using station microjumpdrive thingy, same as we could land on planets, using planetary microjumpdrive thingy. That is far from we have now in the game, and it is all a fraction of my ideas.

OP has never been shot down on undock. I think I would prefer not losing a ship to an animation..

Next we can have stations we dock like in Deep Space 9, and each gate we come to we have to manually enter the 7, 8, or 9 chevrons depending on our destination.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

That's funny.

I remember that matching rotation thing from the original elite :-)

Seriously though, all this would get old, very quickly. Who wants to spend all that time to dock? Autopilot would always handle this sort of stuff.

Because eve isn't Elite Dangerous or any other WASD Cockpit Joystick space game? Why is it so hard for people to understand that?

That docking procedure looks awesome.

Docking, and getting it right, was always a big thrill for me when playing Elite, even when I could afford the auto-docker I often used to do it manually. Oh, that and the Blue Danube of course.

That clip has made up my mind. I'm going to play Elte Dangerous as soon as. I won't leave EVE, I've invested too much in the game, but for some hands-on piloting I think that Elite D is the way to go.

Great stuff.

because after the first, 2nd and 3rd try it would get really boring, really fast
not to mention do you really want to stay in space that long while hostiles are abound?

I can find it fun for a few specific stations, but all of them ? no.
maybe implement that interface at the start for hacking.

I still remember the dread in Frontier ELITE when I realized that last fight shot my auto pilot and I hadn't saved in a long while.
I still remember that sense of ultimate victory when I managed to fly to the next station and dock manually with minimal damage.

I'm looking forward to elite dangerous, I think it will be more like eve than star citizen which looks all set to be a carebesr mmo.

Manual docking whilst cool looking would destroy systems like jita and be too much work when as capsular pilots we can order some low ai subroutine to do it.

I'd like to see us docked outside the station though, so we can watch traffic and do our business under the station shields as I don't think there's any need for us to actually go inside when a docking gantry is all we need.

This right here. And also as stated above would get boring after several times doing it.
Many players have limited time to play, and that time is best spent productively. Already easy enough to piddle your time away doing little stupid stuff in game without this. Also, devs have bigger fish to fry and should spend time on that.

you should ask why EvE is not looking like this -> ClickEvent or ClickEvent2 ... i love the additional thrusters for the movement change!

Are there any technical limitations?

Obviously, for us it would be from a 3rd person perspective, but I think that might be better because we'd be able to see other ships dock more clearly etc. It should provide greater immersion.

I realise that the size of Jita 4-4 would have to be increased, however I think it could be worth it.

Bumpers/griefers and lag would be the biggest issue. One or two seconds of lag or a dropped packet and you're toast.

Even Elite II had an autopilot for landing. Not sure about that version.
