Well, I agree with the fact that offering a name change in a restricted way to people buying a toon and keeping a history of name changes would make it so a character's evolution is always traceable, which is a very important point, but :

1. I think there should be a clear disadvantage in buying a character rather than creating from scratch. Not choosing your race / name is one. Some people don't care, some do (I do, a lot, I'd rather spend 5 years training a toon than get one I didn't create myself).

2. It would be a step towards a lot of "hey i want to change my name too" from all over the place, and I wouldn't like that. EVE is a game in which you invest a lot into your character. Your name is the one bit of identity that remains strong throughout your entire career and I think it should remain this way.

Well, that's at least 2 seconds for every character to enter local who you don't immediately recognize the name of.
In a busy system, or in a dangerous situation, that will soon add up.

You missed the point. The name you make for yourself in a single shared universe is very important. The person that you pissed off one day might be back the next. At an instant, you can see every character in local and know if you recognize them. With changing your character name, this is no longer possible. You'd literally have to show info on every character to know if you truly recognize them or not.

You have the misguided idea that because you suggest it limited to those that buy characters, that somehow others couldn't use it just to change their own characters name. You would be wrong and people would use it. So your limitation, is not a limitation at all.

As for changing names of bought chars, like I said the name is a part if the consequence of buying someone's character. You have the choice of not buying a bad name and waiting for a good one with the skills needed. You are buying someone else's time and effort and there may be a compromise or two to make.


misguided idea? where do you see that? i think you are misguided my friend.. im aware of all this.. but it could be fixed with a simple tab to keep track of name changes.. it's been said at least 15 times.. again did you take the time to READ the other posts of brilliant suggestions?

i couldn't comprehend the second part of your text. may be you can edit it to put some orders in your ideas, so that it makes some sense.. that's what i was referring to.

It seems to me that the name of a character is as much a part of the product as the skillpoints, and you should plan accordingly when buying and (especially) when selling.

Oh, also, this isn't the facebook, we're not here to "like and favorite" your forum post. It's not good form to beg for internet points. Not even on the internet.



A simple "Name History" would solve that concern and still allow the OP to rename his purchased toons.

Note as well that he is not asking for removal of obvious awoxing killmails.

i think you don't get it.. did you read? this would be only for people that bought a character from the bazaar.. the timer on the name change added to the price of it (name change option plus the character transfer) would make it a bit expansive for someone to just do it for a clean name.. and there is the contact list for that (just thought of that).. if someone is red it would stay red in that contact list.. wouldn't change much

to that i would add that if it is done properly (history tracking of name change), in about 2 seconds all the money spent changing his name for a "cleaner name" would be wasted

I DO get it. How do you know if someone "bought" a character in local? Are they going to be flashy red in local so you know you can't trust their "local name" and have to show info on them?

You read what I wrote, but still failed to comprehend it.

I'm not talking about tabs and keeping a track of old names. That has already been covered by others. I'm talking about YOUR misguided idea of a limitation. YOUR idea of limiting it to character sales. This is not in fact a limitation, as everyone could still use it to rename their own characters.

Try reading, instead of simply skimming the words.

chances are that if you met someone you don't like it would be added to your personal/corp/alliance contact list as red, as i explained in my last post.. a little star (someone know the name of this * lol) could be added just after the name to show a name change like: Renegade Zed*

when you see the "little star" you know that you have to show info and check the alias history tab..

There are three states that characters in eve can be.

Known - Good (friendly people I have met and I believe wont hurt me)
Unknown - (people I dont know or recognize)
Known - Evil (people who I know will try to gank, scam or pewpew me etc)

When any one of these comes close to me in game I can behave accordingly.


With name changes: Unknown names could be any one of the 3 states. So I am forced to check the char info... alias tab... of all unknowns to see how I should behave.


I hope I've explained this coherently, and you are able to look at this without your blinders on!

those would already be covered by your personal/corp/alliance contact list showed as blue gray or red.. so you would have an idea at least of what to expect from that person. (action wise)

You have a tool in the game already that lets you tag everyone by simply adding them to your contacts list (as either good/bad/whatever).

This would not suddenly be removed if a character name was changed.

well Bob Stranger* (with the little star) shows that the guy had a name change. and he is red to you.

now what do you do when you never seen a guy in local before.. and he is not on the contact list? you show info right? it is already part of the game mechanic.. it wouldn't change much to pvp at all..

i think you're just fishing for things to cry on now...

that's your problem for not using a useful game mechanic.

because you CHOSE your character name, like i chose mine. people that buy the character from the bazaar are forced to use a name because the skills and price range of that toon fits what they are looking for... when they buy that toon, they input money to CCP. a simple name change when the transaction is done would be a way to personalize that toon so that it feels a bit more like "yours" now that it is yours..

i thought i had that covered in my 1st post tho..

of course some, very few people, will use this to their "advantage" to have a "clean name" like stated countless of times.. but this can be countered by some simple yet effective changes in the game. and most of it is already in place (contact list)

You are not 'Forced' to use a name in the Bazaar, if a name is so important to you, make it one of your selection criteria when buying a character.

As far as i can see if CCP allows name changes on bazaar characters it would open the floodgates for anyone to request a change. I've seen the posts, "waaa i created my toon when i was 13 and thought 'MrMassiveBoner' was a cool name, I want to change it".... "I no longer like the name Metallica-Rulez because I am into Justin Beiber now"....



Anyway. I'm going to leave this thread now. We are not going to change each others minds on this. I've said my piece and stood up to be counted against your idea.
