Why are they still orange? It looks pretty bad with the blue/black color scheme on the ship.

The lights can't be blue as that would conflict with the EoM and old Fed Navy colour schemes. Orange is therefore the next best choice (as it's complementary to blue).
I had thought that Kador should have been much lighter though, much more polished metal - from the dev blog images they seem far too close to Khanid (Innovations).
