When CCP changed probe scanning i was feeling this way: scanning became too dumb and easy and removed large part of player skills and experience from the game

This time i don't feel it. I don't know why but current changes look very reasonable and good UI improvement instead of dumbing down.

It is quite possible in a kiting fight for me to not touch the overview once.

I lock targets based on proximity in space, and the right direction for me to maintain my burn. Of course it is my opinion biased by my own practices. Maybe d-scan and overview are your priorities, and you play without local chat, I know it is that way for wormhole residents. Either way, d-scan is well up there as one of the things that will get you kills or prevent you being killed, and they have removed obstacles in it's interface. Because this makes it quicker it makes it even more important for younger players to learn the basics, especially now that interceptors do wtfwarpspeed! Pirate

Does it dumb it down? (Paraphrased)

I always like a devil's advocate argument Smile However in this case I feel fairly sure that the complexity of the task has not been reduced, as you still need to perform the same set of actions. What they have done is simplify the interface for those actions which gives me happy-pants.

The complexity of picking out the angle and distance to narrow down your target is still there, what the patch reduced was the amount of clicks required to actually do this job. (Even then, to do funky tricks like "dscan probing" you will still need to type in kilometer numbers manually - just like in ye olde days).

Dscan still needs skill to use, can be really powerful if someone knows how to use it right and I certainly hope it stays this way after the revamp. And, since new players are being mentioned: I get the feeling those sliders and an angle indicator will come a long way in helping newbies grasp the feel of dscanning quicker. Which is good - it should be relatively easy to learn (set to max range + 360 and push butan for targets) and hard to master.

Great to hear :)
We want you to fight each other, not the interface :)
