Okay, suited up my little rifter in all t1 stuff for my first swing at some pvp. headed to .4sec and started running around the asteroid fields. I see someone in a Caldari Cruiser killing rats. I figure, awesome, i'll engage him while he's fighting for fun and see what I can do. Well, I killed him, "YaY!!" I think. Awesome first time. I warp back to a stargate and get destroyed by some Minmatar sentry's.

Of course I'm a noob at this, and I should've read more I guess, but I thought in sub .5sec space, you couldn't engage other people without any penalties. Well, lesson learned right, i don't do that again and I'll read into some pvp'ing a bit more. So, I lost about 50,000isk worth of stuff with is chump change to me now, thankfully. I warp back into .5sec space heading home in my pod and Concord destroys my pod. My agression timer still had 9mins left. Should I have waited till my agression timer was at zero before heading back into .5sec+ space? I didn't think they would pod me.

Oh well, again lesson learned. Can't learn much pvp by sitting in highsec. Anyways, wanted to relay my first pvp of any kind. Was pretty exciting. I can fully fit a rifter in T2 stuff, just don't want to yet until I really get the hang of flying it for pvp stuff.

Any suggestions would be great.

In 0.4 to 0.1 security rated systems, any aggressive action on an neutrally flagged opponent (wartarget, or pirate are examples of non-neutral) will give you a fifteen minute 'Global Criminal Countdown' flag. During this time you are recognized as a criminal and will be fired upon at Stargates and Stations by the sentry guns that reside in low security space. However, CONCORD will not be dispatched to find you, so you can hide in a safespot or at any other celestial for fifteen minutes until the timer is up.

Note that during these 15 minutes you are now an authorized target by CONCORD versus any other player for being a criminal. When you took your pod back into hi-sec, you were still flagged as a 'criminal' and your pod was probably destroyed by other players. (CONCORD nor any NPC for that matter will ever destroy your pod.)

In any case, congratulations on your first kill! Twisted

I Lol'd at this.

Then after thinking about it for a moment or two, realized I'd probably have done the same thing at some point.

So, \o/ for the lessons and the killing!

Ah yeah, makes sense, another player probably saw me. It was really really fast though. I wasn't auto-piloting back, I was about to hit the warp button, then I popped. Good to know though.

So would I have been good in .3sec to engage someone, then come back into highsec or not have to worry about sentry guns? or be flagged as a criminal?

CONCORD shouldn't pod you. File a petition.

Also, see Dan Pyre's post above. Unsanctioned aggression cause GCC, which in turn cause you to be attacked by sentries at stations/gates and CONCORDOKKEN'D in highsec.

No. Going back to highsec in anything but a pod whilst GCC will cause you to be destroyed by CONCORD. Dock up in a lowsec station or hide in a safespot until it wears off.

Oh yeah, great lesson for me. I don't care about the 50,000isk worth of stuff I lost. I am just excited I finally braved lowsec space.

He's probably right, it must've been another player if Concord doesn't do that. I was just targeted so fast and killed I thought it was Concord. I didn't check the logs.

bolded relevant bits

(it expires in 15 minutes, no matter where you go. it refreshes if you engage in another criminal act.)

Check your combat log to see if it was actually CONCORD that podded you. If it was them, then you've stumbled upon a pretty big glitch.

Actually.. sleeper NPC's will eventually kill pods. They are just at the very bottom of their agro list.
