Proteus Fit request

Hi all,

I have an alt who is trained in Gallente ships only, and is able to fly a Proteus right away, save for the lack of ISK to buy it.

Does anyone have an up to date Proteus fit for PVE in Null I could have a look at as a guide?

The Alt is currently training for T2 Medium Hybrids, and most probably will buy the Proteus when the skills are completed.

Cash is limited at the moment but I will adjust the fitting to suit what I can buy.

Thanks in advance for your help.

use an ishtar.

The kind of PVE you want to do (explo, ratting, whatever) and the kind of rats you face are essential to know to answer your question.

I've been toying with the Railgun Thorax a lot lately in PVP and have been very happy with the damage output. Engaged a Vagabond and between 20-30km I was dishing out a lot more damage than he was. He did eventually catch and eat the Thorax, but it was a good example of what Odessy 1.1 did for railguns. As a result, I've been tinkering with my Proteus fit for a full rack of 250mm's, and the range/damage profile looks fantastic. Proteus is an expensive option, and a shiny target for mission gankers, but if you just really want to fly the sexy beast that is the Prote, here's my two cents:

Proteus: PVE Gunfighter
Subsystems:
Nonobot Injector (obvious)
Dissolution Sequencer (longer targeting range, sensor strength bonus against ecm, and enough CPU to fit the rails)
Dissonic Encoding Platform (only sub that gives a Tracking Bonus + damage and falloff)
Localized Injectors (faster base speed, 75% less cap use for MWD)
Power Grid Multiplier (only sub that gives you the 6th gun)

6x 250mm Railgun II's

Federation Navy Stasis Web (14km range for frigates that get close)
Medium Capacitor Booster (smallest charges = longer use between reloads)
Federation Navy Afterburner (fairly cheap, more speed, less cap use, longer overheat)

________ Armor Hardener II (specific to mission damage)
________ Armor Hardener II (specific to mission damage)
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Medium Armor Repairer II
3x Magnetic Field Stabilizers

Metastasis Adjuster II (20% more tracking)
Auxiliary Thrusters (more speed, if you want it)
Nanobot Accelerator (more bang for the Repairer buck)

Javelin dishes out over 700dps +75% tracking at 9km/24km
Navy Antimatter dishes about 690dps +50% tracking at 14/34
Spike reaches out to 54km/85km and still does over 400dps.

Curious to see if anyone gets over their hate for railguns and actually considers this....

Oh, one more thing. If you want to avoid getting caught in transit, you could bring one of the new Mobile Depots and use the Covops Sub and a Covops Cloak and refit when you get to target destination. Let's see an Ishtar do that...Cool

I used this ship for 4 years before getting caught at a fast-lock gate camp.
Was great for Serp/Gurista space.

I could solo almost everything and flew in hostile space daily.

Thanks so much for the replies.

The plan was to use a Proteus for it's ability to do pretty much anything, but I do hear good things about the Ishtar.

Fenris Orion, I do plan on taking a Mobile Depot and using a cloaky version to get around Null.

RavenPaine, that fit you lost recently looks something similar to what I have in mind, however, the build I'll make won't be so shiny.

Thanks again for your responses guys, fly safe, and good hunting.

The fit and the shiny stuff evolved over the years.
I tried hybrid drones, different guns, webs, cap rechargers, etc.
I bought the shinies when they were a good price.
After several months, then years of success, I wasn't worried about the loss. 100% confidence.
Also: a *bad* week would net 500 million or more, a good week might be closer to 2 billion. Isk output is relative to income.

Back then cloaky/nullified couldn't put out a lot of DPS. With the advent of mobil depots, you can get much more DPS these days.

If you're doing the PvE in Serpentis/Guristas space, I'd use something like this:

[Proteus, L4]

Federation Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer
Federation Navy Magnetic Field Stabilizer
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
True Sansha Medium Armor Repairer
Armor Thermic Hardener II
Armor Kinetic Hardener II
Coreli C-Type Adaptive Nano Plating

Republic Fleet 10MN Afterburner
Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range Script
Large Capacitor Battery II

250mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M
250mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M
250mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M
250mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M
250mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M
250mm Railgun II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M

Medium Hybrid Locus Coordinator II
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit II

Proteus Engineering - Power Core Multiplier
Proteus Defensive - Nanobot Injector
Proteus Offensive - Hybrid Propulsion Armature
Proteus Propulsion - Localized Injectors
Proteus Electronics - Dissolution Sequencer

Hammerhead II x5
Hobgoblin II x5

882dps to 24+30km with CN Antimatter or 578dps to 88+30km with Spike
770dps tank against Serpentis (which should be able to survive even 8/10s in Null but I'm not 100% sure, never tried them personally with this fit)

You should bring stuff to swap out to a cloaky/nullified fit for travel.

With T3 rebalance happening really soon™ I'd probably hold on to making plans or buying one for now.

Thanks once again for the replies guys.

I'm still a long way off getting the Proteus for my alt.

I'm working on the "fly what you can afford to loose" idea, so I won't buy the ship and fittings until I'm comfortable ISKwise.

I'm hoping to make somewhere in the region of at least 100 million a week, as I'll be doing a lot of travelling around looking for empty systems to do the rats in.

If this idea ends up with me (as in my alt) getting ganked, I can still use the fit for Lvl 4's.

Once again, thanks for the replies.

Fly safe and good hunting.

100mil an hour in null anoms is pretty easy providing you're smooth with it, remember, you've got to spend money to make money!
