Sort of depends on the definition of manually.

Try double clicking in empty space to see, if that is what you meant.

Edit: Damn, I'm impolite today *sigh*... Welcome to EVE!

as said only way is to double click in space and your ship will go in that direction, it is actually a lot more useful then most people think. Perhaps not so much for pve but it is vital in pvp.

There are shortcuts for controlling speed, but for direction, you need to click with mouse

Here are some examples of manual maneuvers for your consideration.

Check out tracking speeds. There are a few very good tuts on youtube from eve university.... regarding maneuvering.
Most important thing in this game is angular velocity.

You in a battle cruiser with large guns, me in a quick frig, I orbit, you shoot and shoot and hit.... nothing...

While approaching in a straight line has no angular velocity... I would be vaporized with the first volley.

MOVE... always MOVE... Don't us the orbit command stupidly... it will make you approach a ship in a straight line till it curves into orbit.

And so on...

Enjoy the looney bin!

For examples of manual piloting and how it can be extremely useful in PvP, check out my guides for kiting and anti-kiting:

You can't control it in a stick-and-rudder sense. You can manually direct your ship and set its speed, as mentioned above, but you don't have direct pitch, roll, or yaw controls. Keep in mind, the fancy-looking hull of your ship is just client-side flair; the server sees your ship as a moving ball bearing of variable size, with a velocity vector that can change from one second to the next.
