Downtime notifications do not need to be modal

As downtime approaches, pilots are warned with modal dialog boxes at 60 minutes, 30 minutes, and 15 minutes.
They are obnoxious because you have to click on them before you can resume fighting or whatever you were doing. Now multiply that by every client you're running.

At 5 minutes a countdown begins in the non-modal notification area (where damage notifications, etc occur). This is a lot less annoying because you don't have to click it and it simply stays there counting down, and 5 minutes is plenty of time to dock or safelog.

If people are AFK, the notifications do nothing, and If people aren't AFK, the notifications are too intrusive.
Do pilots REALLY need to acknowledge that they saw the one hour warning before they can get back to playing the game? Would not a more passive warning in the notify area be enough?

Why not change these modal dialog boxes, that force you to click through on every client you're running, to just be notifies in the same area as the countdown that fade away after a few seconds?

Please remove the modal dialog boxes for downtime notifications. They aren't necessary.

ESC and gone is the box.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Substituting a keypress does not adequately address this issue. Four interruptions per client per day is still complete overkill.

Nonsense. Four interruptions per day is the least that's required to make sure nobody has any justification for crying about how they didn't know downtime was coming.

Don't pretend the EVE playerbase is actually more intelligent than a bag of parsnips.

I thought this was EVE, not hello kitty in space. Warnings via the notify area and the existing 5-minute timer would still make that pretty sure, no?

Okay, how about an expert mode where the dialog box can be disabled via a resettable checkbox akin to the other warnings?

I don't know how long you've been around, but modal dialogs have always been one of those universally hated things, and have slowly been reduced in numbers over the years.

The fact that the one for DT occurs on all clients simultaneously just makes this one that much more of a pointless, interrupting and blocking window.

IDC how CCP would address this, so long as they do. Flash the neocom bar and put a countdown in the bottom of it above the clock. Make it non-modal such as with the Duel Invitation or Safe Logoff windows. Replace your portrait with a animation of your char crawling into a bed - I don't care, but the same modal windows occurring simultaneously over N clients is just bad design.

The modal nature of the notifications has always annoyed me. And their quantity too. I can see a justification for one modal box, at ten minutes (not five, nor fifteen), but not two, let alone three!

Confirming this is pretty annoying, especially that whenever a new box pops up, the old one stays there despite clearly not being relevant anymore.

+1

It could at least have an option to deactivate them. They could also be replaced by a colored warning / countdown displayed at the bottom left of the UI, next to the clock.

I stand behind my opinion that four boxes is the minimum required to make sure people cannot cry about not knowing DT was imminent.

I do, however, agree that adding a "Do not show again" checkbox in conjunction with a timer of sorts in the crimewatch area (it could be white or perhaps neon green) would be a very good way to accommodate everyone.
