Meaningful FW Ranks

My alt is in the Gallente Militia so I will use their rank structure as an example for the sake of this post. Each faction has an equivalent rank structure; only the names of the ranks are different.

  1. Luminaire General
  2. Lieutenant General
  3. Major General
  4. Vice Commander
  5. Aegis Commander
  6. Shield Commander
  7. Lieutenant Sentinel
  8. Guardian Lieutenant
  9. Defender Lieutenant
  10. Federation Minuteman

These ranks are entirely meaningless. They have zero impact on gameplay. I propose we change that.

General Overview
I suggest that militias should function more like player corporations and that high ranking members should have more authority than lower ranking members. Nobody would be able to take action without consulting other members; this would be enforced by a voting system for every official action. The number of votes each member has would depend on their rank and only members with a sufficient rank would be eligible to vote on certain matters e.g. setting militia wide standings towards a player, corp or alliance. There would be a 1 week cooldown after a vote before another vote could be held on the same topic. Votes on different topics could be held simultaneously. Voting period would also last for 1 week to allow time for all those who are eligible to have their say.

Specifics
Votes would be weighted as follows:

  • Luminaire General - 10 votes
  • Lieutenant General - 9 votes
  • Major General - 8 votes
  • Vice Commander - 7 votes
  • Aegis Commander - 6 votes
  • Shield Commander - 5 votes
  • Lieutenant Sentinel - 4 votes
  • Guardian Lieutenant - 3 votes
  • Defender Lieutenant - 2 votes
  • Federation Minuteman - 1 vote

Each rank would unlock the following voting options. This would be cumulative so that a Guardian Lieutenant (for example) could vote on X, Y and Z whereas a Defender Lieutenant could only vote on X and Y.

  1. Luminaire General - Access to 'Strategic LP Stockpile' for upgrading systems
  2. Lieutenant General - Setting Militia standings towards player entities
  3. Major General - Gagging people in militia chat for 24 hours
  4. Vice Commander - Setting the MoTD in militia channel
  5. Aegis Commander - Setting 'Strategic LP Stockpile' tax rate
  6. Shield Commander -
  7. Lieutenant Sentinel -
  8. Guardian Lieutenant -
  9. Defender Lieutenant -
  10. Federation Minuteman - Kicking corps and Alliances from Militia

Strategic LP Stockpile and Corresponding Tax Rate
  • Tax rate would be 0% when introduced
  • Could only be changed by voting
  • x.xx % of all LP earned would go directly to the strategic reserve
  • Luminaire Generals could choose which iHubs to deposit the strategic LP stockpile into
  • They would not have personal access to the LP stockpile

  • I welcome all ideas about how to make the Militia rank structure meaningful.

The main idea is good. I wish me being a Valklear general would have more of an impact on my gameplay.

But your implementation is incomplete. Right now it is ridiculously easy to get these ranks. There should be a limited amount of Top tier Generals in militia. A decaying rank system with a curve applied to it, so that you have to work hard to keep your ranks should be doable.

Also, rank should be a function of PvP kills. We definitely wouldn't want an ISK farmer to be a General do we? LP gained through PvP would be a good indicator.

The effects of rank as you described are very exploitable. I cannot think of anything to replace them at the moment, but I'll think on it.

You have a few issues here.

Where is the control if the people with rank are tards? Even rl military has this. Example: I had a Half bird colonel fired on his day off. Put in more proper terms...he was relieved of command on a Saturday.

Eve has this as well. It be failscades as if leadership is bad enough, people bail in droves.

That and its giving too much of a bit of power trip to maybe make FW seem more unappealing. Get enough ass hats in charge and well.....an entire section of FW is being run by morons you can't get away from. Especially since looking to go militia wide with this.

In 0.0 I have left corps and/or alliances when leadership was just having too much of an e-gomaniac complex thing going (get it e-go... meh, long day best I got). Found new homes where leadership more chill...or at least not nitwits compensating for inadequacies in rl by taking it out on us players in game.

Nice thing about 0.0 or even say low or wh's and I guess empire as well is you can change your scene quite readily like this. FW....kind of locked in. As you for sure have burned bridges standing wise with the opposite pairing, their allies not liking you much and well since you chose gallante I imagine something about minmatar was not thrilling you either (as minmatar would be kindred spirits to gallante, fighting the man and all that jazz).

I would like to see special FW modules available to only those that have the rank and hold the rank (meaning those who are not in FW cannot use them)

For instance a Luminaire General's Modified Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

I think this is a bad idea. Not really compatible with "Sandbox".

But it can be hammered into something useful!!!

Make obtaining ranks in FW a PvP based activity (LP gained through PvP to decide rank)

Make a limited amount of ranks like:

    1 Luminaire General
    2 Lieutenant Generals
    5 Major Generals
    10 Vice Commanders
    20 Aegis Commander
    50 Shield Commander
    100 Lieutenant Sentinel
    200 Guardian Lieutenant
    500 Defender Lieutenant
    Limitless-Federation Minuteman

Each DT, a list is constructed with people and their LPs gained through PvP(Let's call it Faction Points). List is sorted by FP's and then distributed to ranks. Each DT the FP's of every pilot is reduced by 2%. So that there is decay going on and you'll need to be keep PVP'ing to maintain your ranks.

Every FW members access to FW LP store will be limited by their ranks. Lowest ranks can access only the cheapest units, while you get access to higher values units as your rank increases.

Luminaire General - Limitless 20% discount
Lieutenant Generals - Limitless 10% discount
Major Generals - Limitless 5% discount
    Vice Commanders - Limitless
    Aegis Commander - 120000 - Faction BC's, Mindlink
    Shield Commander - 80000 - +5's 5% implants
Lieutenant Sentinel - 50000 -Faction Cruiser +4's 3% implants lots of modules
Guardian Lieutenant -10000 -Faction Frig +3's navy drones and skillbooks
Defender Lieutenant -2500 - Ammo Cap boosters, +2's and LG faction implants
Federation Minuteman - 500 - Datacores, 1%implants and some minor cap boosters

The values can be tweaked. This essentially solves the farmer issue as they need to PvP to efficiently use their LP's. I see some avenues to exploiting this by killing alts in other militia to get ranks, I am sure CCP can watch this and put necessary safeguards to preventing abuse of the system. Removing industrials and cargoholds from LP equation is a good initial step.

I'm throwing in my voice for "it's a bad idea."

There are lots of complex and mission farmers that have very high rank but have never actually engaged in ship-on-ship PvP. And then there are PvP veterans who have been in the warzone for YEARS and have competently commanded 20+ man fleets for YEARS... and they sometimes have the lowest rank in the militia because they have never run a mission, a complex, and/or have had to kill a militia mate that was killing them.

I really don't see why we should reward farmers more than they already are. And attaching ranks to PvP performance can be easily exploited (as it was when FW was initially revamped).
Ranks should remain as they are for purely role playing reasons.

Are you out of your MIND?

1.) No pansy ass mustang brass is going to order me around, and I'd like to see you try!

2.) What happens when the Minmatar Militia infiltrate the Amarr Officer ranks: You want to take Huala, ahahahaha, vetoed. You want to take Kourmonen, ahahhahahaha, vetoed. Gee, this couldn't possibly end bad.

3.) People don't follow you because of rank; they follow you because you lead. Once you convince people to follow you, who gives a **** about rank.
