CCP Soundwave lead three teams into battle and now they've delivered Crucible. In his new dev blog he talks about the past, the making of Crucible, the future...and how to survive bear attacks.

Check it out here and leave your feedback for Soundwave in this thread.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

We got a lot of great dev blogs lately, but I think this is the first one that tries to be funny – and actually succeeds. Awesome Bear

Well said, carry on.

PS: If you cut out the MT ballast, even ambulation can be an essential, fun part of EVE, eventually. But first fix what needs fixing, update what needs updating and innovate the space of our space sim.

This blog was bearly readable.

Glad to hear that the future is bringing more spaceship content as well, and excited to get home and play around with all the new features that have been introduced today.

The tone of the devblog says it all, Soundwave is happy and he has good right to be, rarely has there been so much spaceship content in an expansion for this spaceship game. It looks very pretty Big smile

Welcome back to EVE, CCP. We missed you.

Crucible sounds phenomenal and I can't wait to see what you guys cook up with more than a month or two of dev time. <3 Soundwave!

I, too, am looking forward to this release which is filled with many fun and useful features! :D

I do have some questions...

Quote:
We had about 4-6 weeks of actual development time to put this release together

I thought Eve expansions came out in cycles of 6 months (roughly), so that figure seems unexpectedly low. I would expect a figure closer to 20 weeks (5 months or roughly 5x4 weeks)?
* What was the other time spent on?
* If this was the result of a 'last minute' change after/around the recent layoffs will the summer expansion contain about four times as much spaceship content since you'll have the full 6 months?

And hoping against hope and my own common sense, any chance you can shed light on plans for the summer expansion? :P

First!...page.

Do not ever inflict '18 months' on your subscribers again. Damn shoddy.

Also you're forgiven and I will be re-subscribing.

Did you not follow the part where they stopped doing Establishments and some other things to put together Crucible instead?

Bravo to all the folks at CCP, brilliant turn around and exactly what was needed. Death to the 18 months indeed!

Regarding time spent, we worked on two other projects which were put on hold/scrapped due to various reasons, but the chief one being the change in direction for EVE (back to FiS).

Can't promise you x quantity of stuff, just that we'll continue to do this stuff :)
