Implants for skill training and cost management

After the first few poddings, replacing implants got expensive. Complete sets of implants would be wiped out. So to minimize the cost I came up with a solution. Well, a solution new to me anyway.

Since training attributes seemed to be paired up in most cases (intel/memory), (perception/willpower), I’ve implemented the use of jump clones for the things I want to train.

One jump clone will have an intel/memory implants. Another will have perception/willpower and so on.

Group the things you want trained into these categories, and use the jump clone with the needed implants just for those skills.

So now if you are podded, the cost in replacing the implants is minimized. Instead of having to replace a whole set of implants, you just have a couple to replace.

That's a very common way of doing things. I've got a few clones.
- Perc/Wil +5
- Int/Mem +5
- Genolution set
- Full set of +3s (Most commenly used during PvP - cheap to replace)

I'm mostly in the normal +3s. They are cheap and easy to replace. I use the +5 specific sets for when I know I wont be able to log in for a few days, or even weeks.

I might add a pirate implant set at some point, but at the moment I have no need for it.

Especially now one can have 10 jump clones.

I think this might cover most skills:
* PER & WIL
* PER & MEM
* PER & INT
* INT & MEM
* INT & CHA
* CHA & WIL

I use a standard clone for highsec (+4 in all five stats, 5% medium hybrid turrets, 3% hybrid rate of fire, 3% small hybrid turrets). Relevant bonuses to almost every ship I fly. The other hardwiring slots are also used but just with very cheap implants.

Then if I expect to be putting my pod in danger, I swap to a jump clone with +4 in just the two stats I am training a skill in *right now*, and cheap hardwirings that will help with whatever I am doing. If I don't lose that pod, I will simply use it the next time I am taking significant podding risks and add any other +4s I might need then.

How about make a skill plan in Evemon, use two implants and train skills you're mapped for. You will train faster with a cheap set of +3's rather than doing it your way with +5's

Also if you're getting podded a lot I hope it's in nullsec rather than lowsec. The only way you should lose a pod in lowsec is to a smartbomb.

Or lag, or to an unforseen instalock trap on an outgate or station.

Outside lag and smartbombs it is always possible to get your pod off-grid in lowsec after a ship loss. It is not always possible to get it docked again without taking precautions that are utterly unreasonable for sub-0.5b pods.

For >1b pods, it is perfectly reasonable to take those precautions - warping around between safes for more than 15 minutes, then at a time when no probes are on 14AU scan, log out and not log that character in for several hours to ensure no dedicated hunters remain chasing you. But doing so in a ~120m pod like the one I tend to use is just ridiculously wasteful, when I could accept that 5% of the time I'll be podded and then use the time I save to make a lot more ISK than I'd have lost.

You can lose pods in highsec to a suicide ganker in an instalocking Thrasher on any outgate or station too. I hate Christmas (used to work in retail), so I spent Christmas Day on an alt instalocking pods in Dodixie, popping them, and sending them Merry Christmas EVEmails. Dodixie implant traders appreciated the extra business.

Did I get you?

I didn't get any really high value pods, think the highest was 495m ISK or so.

Nothing like the 5pc high-grade Crystal set I once found inside an AFK Sleipnir in lowsec just orbitting a gate - in a station system...

Excellent plan. I did want to add my thoughts to yours that there's basically never any reason to use more than the two attribute implants you need for training. Make a skill plan, stick with it, and minimize loss upon your inevitable podding.

Why not just one jump clone with +5s that never leaves the station and the rest with implants that enhance your profession(s) and combat?

Just jump to the attribute-enhanced clone when you need to go into deep freeze for training..
