This problem was fixed until downtime on 3-6-2014 at which point routing of the EVE subnet was once again preferred through the Verisign network. Every time they reroute Eve through Verisign we have these horrible connection problems to anything within the Eve subnet. It took me 4 tries to reply to this thread and 3 tries logging in to Eve.

CCP, Please stop routing us through VERISIGN.

Well it looks like I joined a lot of folks who are experiencing this route blocking experience. What I can share with you is that on Thursday 02-27-14 the patch applied that day started this problem for me. So I figured that my local client had been corrupted and spent Friday -02-28-14 reloading the client and finally on Saturday 03-01-14 figured out that it had to be CCP's actions that started this. The e-mail to support generated an automated response ticket (8D2C34E9) which did not get looked at until Monday 03-03-14 and my first chance at connecting to both support and the game happened on 03-04-14 after the downtime patches were applied. Then on 03-06-14 CCP once again updated my client with one of their mandatory patches and so here I am for the 2nd weekend in a row getting the route blocked messages. (D08DD466). So this time I opened a rant in the "EVE General Discussion" knowing full well that some one from either CCP or ISD group would see it and lock it up. (https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=327921&find=unread) I do not think that this issue will be fixed until Tuesday 03-11-14.

CCP's sand box is EVE Online.  The sand is owned by CCP.  We pay them a monthly fee to throw the sand at each other.  That is all that is here, so move along. Nothing more to be seen.

Just remember, CCP did this crap last weekend and so long as the route to CCP went through Verisign, we have these connectivity problems. As soon as CCP reverted the routing back to normal, the problems went away until they put it back through Verisign.

Do not fall for CCP's "Contact your ISP" BS. CCP made a change to BREAK it, CCP made a change to FIX it (last weekend), and now CCP has made the same change to break it yet again.

So I'm getting this socket closed coming up again... and decided to run a tracert, sure enough its trying to route through VERISIGN again, and that is where the trace drops off.

And I ran a couple tracerts last week while it was working fine and it took a different path entirely, routing through a bunch of tcore switches in Ashburn, New Jersey, then London, before landing at CCP's network.

So whatever change is being made that causes this traffic to route through VERISIGN needs to not be done anymore. I don't know if this is on CCP's end or some high level internet backbone level agreement that is beyond their control but they might want to figure it out as it is affecting quite a lot of their customers.

And it would be neat if there was some way you could map out exactly who this is affecting by looking at the map of the internet (I know one has to exist, but I'm not network nerd enough to find it).

But man would it be great if CCP would actually come back in here and let us know if we are on the right track.

yes, sure! But at first u gotta need a VPN service provider or a dedicated server. Dedicated server are usually rented to ppl, same with VPN services. My service provider is https://www.perfect-privacy.com/

There is a nice instruction on how to conigure the VPN service:
https://www.perfect-privacy.com/howto/vpn-with-linux/

I myself usually dont use this service for gaming as this causes a higher ping. But currently I am forced to do so

More general instruction:
at first u need some packages:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install openvpn network-manager-openvpn network-manager-openvpn-gnome
Than network manager will help you connecting to your VPN server
More general instruction:

I'm going to cross-post this in two separate, relevant threads in hopes it might help someone.

We Steam users have had an absolute nightmare the last week and a half to two weeks. The game worked sometimes, then not at all (but as oft seems to be the case, it wasn't the same for everyone). Then, for the last five days, an apparently large number of us have been able to log on a single time (there are multiple threads on the Eve forum at Steam, one of which reached 10 pages). Five days, no ability at all. When we tried to use the launcher, it Error -7ed out. When we tried to login either here or in the spot to give support tickets, "the connection was reset." So we couldn't even get tech support (someone eventually pointed out a way to e-mail without logging in, after several days had already passed). But people who also had a regular CCP account could use the same launcher on the same computer and get in. It was only logging in with Steam, here or in the launcher, that this happened. And of course, we cannot bypass the launcher the way CCP users can. It appeared that, for whatever reason, Steam's https SSL stuff was refusing to talk to Eve's https SSL stuff. Did all the usual stuff, repair tool, clear cache, manual patcher, to no avail.

Until now. I didn't try to logon yesterday (though I see others on the Steam Eve forums who still could not), but whichever day the latest patch I just applied was released... just fixed it. At first, i could not get the Steam login to work (meaning when I opened through Steam I was getting the usual CCP login, which I can't use), but I then logged out of Steam, logged back in, and boom. Workage.

And with it went the socket closed errors. Completely. So, folks, whatever y'all just did, you are on the right path.

So, anyone having these problems that uses Steam, patch that sucker outside of Steam now. Then log out of Steam, log back in, and try opening the game. And good luck.

And I bet we're all fixed again since CCP isn't sending us through Verisign anymore. So apparently they're screwing up our game just on the weekends. If CCP is fkin up our game time just for the New Eden Open this is a new low, even for CCP.

Me and my wife just started having issues, we have played for 4+ years now and have never had a single issue with this. About 3 hours ago we started having random drops on some of our toons, we could log them back in and then another would go 5-10 minutes later.

I am at the point now that I can not stay logged in for more then 20 seconds before I am getting a socket closed error. Everything else works just fine, youtube, battlefield3, playstation network - everything! accept eve. WHAT DO!!!?!?!?!?
