yeah...but yer gonna need a big bucket to chip it away off your wreck. I think they're making a paint stripping mod that you can fit to your noctis for that very purpose.

looking for price (quite cheap) of these BPCs for paint i don't think CCP will do anything to 'loot' it.

That was an argument made in the dev blog. It is true I could buy a plex, but then some one else is paying for a feature that should be free.

any reasons for this feature to be free?

Having to purchase ship skins using Aurum is a bad idea. The community for a long time has asked for this feature. It should have been apart of the game a long time ago.

Yes, no and yes, in that order.

It's my understanding that the "community" wanted a "Paint" style util where you could create your own colour schemes with a palette of colours, basic patterns (for camo, etc) and the ability to slap on Corp / Alliance logos.

True, this is the first "iteration" of this material. But, it's a far cry from what people would really like to see -- and "paying for it" wasn't part of the idea, either.

So, in many people's eyes, this will be CRAP due to the complete lack of personalized input/customization (for the time being, at least).

Don't really give a rat's ass myself, unless a bright "fire engine red" paint scheme is made available, and ONLY THEN if it makes my ship go 25% than anyone else's ship.

Can we hold off on this discussion until after I've sold the massive amount of Aurum for the huge mark up over what I paid for it so long ago?

But you are not so quit whining

I am not whining, just let down and disappointed CCP wants to go this direction. Maybe it will be like walking in stations, and just die out.

it wont all be aurum.

CCP this is a prototype to see how much people give a **** about it in the first place.

they said they wanted a good split between LP/ISK and Aurum purchased skins, with the possibility of them implementing a more personalized and detailed system farther down the road.

thsi system they are implementing is a market prototype, not representative of the final product.

i swear to Carl people skim dev blogs for 1 or 2 words they know will get them angry, ignore the entire context of the rest of the dev blog, then start a huge shitstorm about it on the forums.

Frankly I see in the Long run Textures/Patterns will likely be Aurum(and I have no issue with this) However I would prefer to see it come in as a BPO at a higher rate, so that I can make BPCs/items to fit to ships like rigs, However the paint to fit the pattern will be an in game item/manufacturing/LP/etc.

EG
Buy Camo Pattern X, and then fill it with Colours Y base, Z Trim and þ Highlights

They could have used the same technology they added with sub-systems. Just that the paint job "sub-system" would replace the whole ship instead of just a portion. Then again, I didn't program that stuff, so I'm not sure if it's that compatible.

Agreed ship skins should be free. Something included in the game from the beginning. You buy a ship and choose color variations. Not so hard.

Your right that it is a prototype and like I said might go the same way that walking in stations went. However, I think it should be made very simple and free. Like changing your avatar's pose and picture, you could also do the same to the ship. The value of the ship should not change other than a nominal fee for applying the paint to your ship. What CCP is saying that in an advanced universe with immortal clones and space stations through out the known universe, painting a ship is so complex that you have to pay some one more than just a nominal fee to use a template to change the appearance of your ship. In this case a Jovian type civilization in a Parallel Universe with the need to pay in the Parallel universe's currency!

With that said, I would like to ask a question? How do you know for sure that there is going to be a good split. The fact that they are thinking about releasing 9 skins and only 1 can be bought with isk/lp is not a good indicator for what you are saying. It seems that CCP is making it to complex when in reality it could be done easier.

I always imagined the system to be similar to something in Mechwarrior games. Plus it would be fun to see a group of gankers all in pink.

CCP may have underestimated how much having to pay for the skins will upset many WoW-bears. As well as how hard they whine.

But that is a good thing in my book, as is skins as micro-transaction with in/out-game currency.

The funny part though, is that nobody except yourself will ever even really see the skin.
But I suppose that is true of most Apparel as well.

If it were free people would actually use it. Like this it's a total vanity thing for a small amount of people, exactly those who like the skins AND are willing to pay significantly more every time they lose a ship of that type. Initially people might buy one or two but why bother if it raises your frigate costs by 500% in the long run?

custom paint in RL never makes your car move faster... but people actually buy it

Eve Online variant: golden pod doesn't help you a bit. But many people have it. The same is with wear and monocles.

Some people just poor. They want everything for free.
Others are not poor. And they actually buy stuff.

I learned something new the other day. Every time a headline ends with a question mark, you can safely assume the answer is no.

I would also just like to point out that you haven't explained why it should be free.
