Because of local, players in null have the ability to know, with absolute certainty, when a system is empty of hostile forces.
At the same time, intel gathering, (excepting meta-gaming as a spy), is handicapped since the observed are perfectly aware of your presence. The ridiculous detail, wherein a player docked at a station with complete safety, can somehow know a covert vessel is present automatically...

While we do have cloaks, we do not have actual covert, as the knowledge is not being denied at all.
Covert definition here, for reference.
"not openly acknowledged or displayed."

Competitive play can be fairly described as a comparison of efforts, with the quality and quantity being judged to determine results.
If we are not making any effort, therefore we are not competing, regarding this issue.

We are watching the game play itself, then simply responding at convenient points.

As a miner, I cannot compete against other miners by making better efforts to gather intel, or watch my sensors more carefully, since local does it for everyone regardless of intended effort.

Addition for the names of the pilots with bad standing in top of the list.:

What would also be nice for a list of Local chat pilots would have the same graphics representation of the Overview : Pilot name with in background, the standing color.

Standing visibility would be better.

Why not just add in the option to right click the name, and warp to the pilot, while you are at it?

This already devalues both sensors, as well as any effort towards clever gameplay, to the point we are just playing a science fiction MOBA.

Let's just make the systems objects all be on grid, and use chat bubbles next to the ship instead.

I do not think it would be a good solution.

Have a less cluttered screen and have a better display order for Pilots list in the local chat would be welcome !

If it becomes so simple, that any effort results in the best possible results, competition will be effectively lowered to whether players are watching the screen or not.

It seems to me, that you don't you like strategy.
Since you are removing so many opportunities to use it here...

YES you're right! I don't like stupid strategy when your strategy is limited to play with the mouse wheel and clutter uselessly the screen with a lot of window.

Hello,

- If you want a better "Intel" which will quickly see the enemy coming (without having to play all the time with the ****** mouse wheel!)

- If you want fewer windows on the screen and by the very fact better see the universe around you

-If you do not want to be at a disadvantage compared to other players who have either a bigger screen that you or they play in less dense areas population ...

- Vote for this simple improvement for Local chat window. Everyone except "Barge Ganker" P will come out winner.

Why should we balance an MMO against players who interact with other players?
This is a big advantage you are throwing to players, who specifically are most likely to use it to avoid interacting with other players.

Hello,

It will not change the interaction between the players. AFK player or the player who does not look Local Chat will always be a good target.

This improvement would at least free up space on the screen and see the enemy coming without requiring all the time playing with mouse wheel.

Is this so hard to understand? a little user friendliness in the game is necessary. I do not want to play with a lot of windows, I want to see the universe around me, I want more space in screeeeeeeeeeeeeen......

Local is powerful enough, without adding yet more intel power on top.

So it's going to be a no thanks from me.

By your logic picking a name that starts with Z makes you more powerful because local is already sorted in some way.

This would make it no more powerful than it already is.
No. But thanks for the input, it was most enlightening.

Yes.

I mine in systems with 135-150 people at times, which means anyone with name A-G let's say appears by default. I have caught many gankers the moment they enter system like this, and not seen many more for minutes due to their names starting with a letter lower down the chain.

The solution for me is clear; scroll the list often enough. This does not change the fact that those with names A-G in that scenario are at a disadvantage. They are more easily spotted and for a completely arbitrary reason.

While I agree that local needs a revamp, until such time they should implement this feature as a means of keeping it balanced in it's current state.

+1 let us sort by contact type until local is revamped properly.

Hello,

Highsec miner : when you have a lot of pilot in the system, this improvement is for you :

- If you want a better "Intel" which will quickly see the enemy coming (without having to play all the time with the ****** mouse wheel!)

I really don't want to spoil your fun, and I think you might actually mean well.

But, you are trying to reduce the amount of effort needed to play EVE, by making the most likely hostile players easier to notice.
And this, in what is already described by many as an unintended source of intel.

When you make something easier, it is also called dumbing it down, because this usually opens more options for those who could not handle it before.
The ones who were playing with low effort, for whatever reason.

The only people who will come out winners here, are the ones who don't want to make an effort.

then have it scrolled to the bottom before jumping into system. it does not reset at the top after a system jump.

mind = blown

but wait.... what if you have no one in local? Wouldn't it reset to the top?

But you're still wrong, people starting with Z still have a huge advantage.

Which is, as has been said repeatedly, a huge buff to local. Why does 100% free intel need to be even better?

Because if we're going to have a vital intel tool and interface with it every goddamn hour and day we're logged on, then it may as well be usable and have basic functionality like this.

Its already usable, flawless, instant and free. provided u are going to interface with it every goddamn hour like u suggest, then u get all the benefits of this function already. Or if u dnt use local as such u dont. Idea already implemented.

I don't know what part you don't understand. People use local to quickly view standings, yet there is no way to sort by the one thing people care most about. Sounds like basic functionality that is missing.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Never forget.

+1 here. Busy systems(150+) force us to sweep local up and down all the time at the moment. Adding a sorting or filtering option(based on standings or current pilot status) would display the same information we already have in more convenient format.

I've seen even more cool idea somewhere on forums: group people in local chat based on their standings.

Ooo ooo ME ME ME....
(raises hand)

I think he means to suggest that we focus more on playing the game itself, using the actual tools meant for locating players.

The implied use of the chat channel as an intel tool is already twisting the game, and this would make that more extreme.

Hello,

At the risk of repeating myself :

This enhancement request corrects an imbalance of the game (Feels Like mostly in zone Highsec) and especially it can unclutter the screen.

So, it offers better visibility in the Local Chat and screen.

While waiting for a complete redesign of Intel, the request to the advantage of being fairly simple to make.

And relax you can always make pew pew on a AFK player or the player who does not check the Local Chat.
