This had me look into Julian and modified a little, so thanks for that. Smile

lol,Lol I know I got sidetracked for about an hour looking at calendar methods. solar, lunar, sidereal, mayan, etc. Then I got lost in a daydream for another good while trying to picture orbital mechanics in my head. Shocked epic fail.

I prefer something more numerically logical.

YYYYMMDD
Example:20140307
Translates into March 7th, 2014

As I frequently use a database, which includes dates into file names, I find this sorts them beautifully, as well.

Ultimately, ANY date format can be adapted to, with at a glance ease of use. We just tend to forget the effort it took after the fact, and exaggerate to ourselves the difficulty learning something new again.

Let's do away with month representation altogether and number the days according to their placement in the year. January 1st would be Day 1. Dec. 31st would be Day 365. Calendar entries would start to sound more like zombie survival journals.

"Day 47: POS bash at VFK, 3pm.

Day 98: Gank fleet to kill ice miners in PQH, 4pm-7pm

Day 207: Three dreads come out of construction to be delivered to N6K.

Day 354: We tried to titan bridge our defense fleet to the front, but the tactic failed. They were expecting us. No sooner had our dreads come on-field than they were volleyed right back off it again by the attacking coalition and their 12 titans, all with DDDs ready to go. We've pulled back our defensive line to within 1j of this station. Supplies are running low. The reactor core that keeps us supplied with power, water and breathable air was damaged in a firefight with enemy DUST mercs six hours ago. We killed the mercs but the reactor's only able to generate emergency power. I don't know how much longer we can hold out. Jimmy says he just saw a cyno light up and that an enemy titan came through, powering up its Doomsday. He's probably drunk again. Everyone knows that Doomsdays can't damage statio- "

No? Too complicated?

You are describing the julian calendar exactly... which we have already discussed by name.

There are roughly 320 million people in the world using the mm/dd/yyyy format, against 3.420 billion using the dd/mm/yyyy. Sorry to disappoint you, USA aren't the centre of the world ^^.

American checking in. No problem with the date format, the GMT time or the 24 hr (military) time unit.

What do I win?

:D

I'm right behind you
