I didn't see a thread for the new cloak mechanics. I just wanted to know what were the devs though process behind it.

My picture of it is: 250 man blob is attacking some random station but the defenders can only get 150 so they decide to blueball but instead of doing that they form a 150 man bomber fleet, with the old/current mechanics this would be imposable because you would always get people de cloaking each other and it would just do more harm than good but now....its turning to bombers online, why use a 250-200m battleship when bombers cost 20-30m and can get the job done much better.

There is no direct counter to bombers, if the bombing fleet cant kill its target just use more bombs next time.
The only counter was that if you had to many people in the fleet it would become a mess to organize them and to make sure they were not all de cloaking each other anyways these are just my concerns with the new cloak changes but looks like a good expansion.Big smile

Cloaked ships don't decloak each other
This major change was kept in secret and was only announced in the patch notes today.
Come on devs.. Don't you think it needs to be discussed before implementing.

This simplifies the game. And it's not needed. At all.

Bomber squads are an elite well trained groups. They should stay like that.

If you're attacking a station, and you have 150 reds in system- yet you don't know where they are? If that's the case you have more to worry about than being bombed.

You really know nothing about bombing. You can only launch 7 at a time, otherwise the bombs blow each other up.

Not a diplo.

Then one decloaks and decloaks the rest. Man that would be funny. Lol

Seems like a good spy alt tactic too, come to think of it.

FWIW, this is a fix for an old bug, not a feature change. It always used to work like this and then it broke and it took us a while to get round to fixing it.

Grr, this is a major nerf for WH space stuff. I catch so many ppl by decloaking them in my cheetah from them being stupid and warping to 100km or 70km from a WH, but I can't decloak them now, which is just silly..

Also, no more sitting on the edge of a drag bubble in a cloaked ship, etc... sigh

OMG stop the whining this is AWESOME and its been live on sisi for weeks AFAIK.
As stated this is how it was in the beginning.

If you feel like forming 150 bombers and letting a gang of 30 afterburning Frigates severly dilate your sphincter, i'd be happy to pay to watch :)

This bug fix is great imo. There will finally be a way to counter mass arty abaddons/maelstroms.

How long is always?

I remember in 2007 hearing scouts complain because they accidentally bumped into another scout on the same grid.

One covops warps to something at 100km chills. Another covops comes in at 100km from same direction, and *bam* they both decloak and an awkward adrenaline-filled moment ensues.

Seriously, wtf?

Copied from the older thread that discusses this change:

Quote:
For anyone that didn't know:

This used to be the norm, it was changed about two and a half years ago (roughly) and was reported as a bug. We were at that time told that this would be fixed as soon as possible (about two and a half years later, roughly).

That Said:

I hate this fix personally, because the alliance I'm in is VERY good at managing bombers without this added ability. Takes a bit of the "we're special" away. Although I'd rather do it the old way with individual bomb spots anyways, that way one tard doesn't decloak everyone on accident and it's more intimidating when your bomber fleet decloaks all over the damn place.

But on a larger scale I think this is good for the game. Will discourage blobs from forming "ULTIMATEWINDEATHCLUSTERS" since bomber usage is likely to scale considerably after this goes live.

[EDIT: Old Thread Talking about the change from 2009 and CCP's response + scroll down to see specific response from a Dev to the issue]
