Patching Nightmare

I followed the instructions from the EVElopedia page to set up my Singularity server folder. It worked great until the patch that hit on the 26th... I had to patch for both my Tranqulility and Singularity, seemed very odd, but I went with it.

Then the next patch came, you have put a lot of "little" patches out in the last 2 weeks or so it has seemed to me. I say little because I have to assume they are not ranging from 800MB to 1.1GB. I asked a few of my corp members and they did not seem to have the same patching going on as me. Then next thing that happened was on the March 3rd patch I had my UI reset, but it did it again the next day when I patched the Singularity launcher, so that was very odd for me.

Today rolls around, another PATCH for Tranquility, by this time I am not very happy to see another 800+ MB patch. So I let it roll again, but half way through it has given be ERROR, patch was unsuccessful. And gave me a text box, Exception, with a large amount of text, which I have copied into a notepad.

I click the Start EVE button from this Exception window and it loads the old in-game EVE log in screen, and tells me to update, but only 6 MB; I'm very happy to see the more reasonable number, click update, and looks like a good update, but fails after finishing download. It tells me errors occurred and the location of the patch_win.exe.log in my AppData/local/temp, and to try and repair EVE. So I do.

I click the repair tool from the launcher and it started repairing my C:\EVETEST folder from my Tranquility launcher! I was trying to launch Tranquility! I know it was the right launcher because it has the new Gallente ship picture to it, my Singularity launcher never changed, it's still the Rubicon one. And in fact, Singularity does not need to update today, I can start and run it fine... :-/

As it's analyzing/Calculating patch, I see a LOT of 'blocks' are missing from my EVETEST folder. I assume (with little knowledge or expertise) this could be where my problem lies; when I copied my EVE folder over, it was a very bad copy for some reason and missed a about 800-1,000 MB of "blocks." The repair tool started to download a 952 MB patch, but it has gotten to 92.2% downloaded and has frozen, I cannot cancel or close the patch. I have copied the repair tool's log into a notepad as well.

Anyways, I can only assume these patches are going into the abyss of the AppData folder, I would really appreciate help fixing this problem or finding a way to prevent it from occurring again when/if I have to do a fresh install of EVE. Because right now I seem to have amassed 6+ GB of .patch files I cannot see or use in some temporary folders in the past week.

Please let me know what specific information you need (running Windows 7), or other areas I could look to solve this.

I have been having very similar if not identical issues the past week or so with both TQ and SiSi patching. Last night it took me a couple dozen tries, multiple attempts with the repair tool, a couple cache clears, and some luck to get TQ patched. Regardless how I initiate it, via launcher or direct exe, the download slows to a stop and it just hangs. I end up killing the process and trying again. Eventually, it just works.

The issue is not my PC or Internet as I had SiSi up and running with zero issues, full functionality. No changes to hardware or software configuration. 70MB download, 25 MB upload, great pings, router firewall disabled, pc firewall disabled. Ugh...

Yes, if you have to ask yourself the question, just assume we are watching you...

I tried again this morning, and I was able to patch Tranquility, but then I went back to launch Singularity and I am now patching 734685-734433... 840 MB but, it downloaded 900MB before patching... I am patching backwards and obviously patching into the same file.

I took your suggestion Nash, went to the EVE.exe in my program files\CCP and launched there, and it actually updated and patched just 26 MB... and my UI old cache is back! So I believe the weak link is the Directory folder in my start menu, it seems to be patching to and running from the EVETEST, not the EVE folder.

Either way, running repair inside the EVETEST folder, EVE folder, Singularity launcher, Tranquility launcher, I still get lots of blocks missing and a repair patch download that fails in the end.

I've pinned the EVE.exe from the EVE folder to my task bar and now can run both clients and no patching needed. Running from the Play EVE in my EVE folder in the directory, and the repair tool in there as well, go to the EVETEST folder, but run the Tranquility server; this seems like a flaw to me, I will be avoiding that directory folder from now on, hope this helps someone else out there either fix or avoid my issues and not end up having to waste downloading 8GB of patches.

My patch bar just turns red and says it's broken.
