What does everyone think about changing the date format from the unconventional format of dd/mm/yyyy to the conventional mm/dd/yyyy? I don't see it anyone else the way ccp does it, and it always takes me a second to adjust to.

There are roughly 320 million people in the world using the mm/dd/yyyy format, against 3.420 billion using the dd/mm/yyyy. Sorry to disappoint you, USA aren't the centre of the world ^^.

I would prefer ISO 8601.

any american who hasn't traveled probably doesn't realize this. Most of us think that the metric system is complicated too... Which is why we have so much difficulty dropping the US customary units. It pains me to say that The average american college graduate now has the vocab, writing, math and science skills of a seventh grader from 40 years ago.

I just opened my launcher to look at the date format on the "Latest News" column. I found that, just as I thought, the date format is already mm/dd/yyyy. I propose that this should be changed to dd/mm/yyyy immediately in light of the 3 billion person majority in favour of the latter.

Yeah, the day month, year set up is used in most countries where the game is played. We Americans just do our own thing. However, I would like to see the month changed from a 2 digit system to a 3 letter one. 06MAR2014 for example. I always like it that way.

EVE already uses YYYY.MM.DD for things like logs and screenshots. It's nice.

I suppose you think it's easier to count in units of twelve, three, and 1,760 than it is to count in units of ten.

I've got an idea - how about using the localization settings of the pc that the client is running on? The time/date is saved in a database...so -

There you have it!

not that my friends are idiots, but if i schedule an op with an eve mail using eve time and date, they could get confused

EVE FAQ "7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided"

I do not see the necessity of changing the date format, because adaptation is easy.

While much of the world uses dd/mm/yyyy, from a sorting perspective it makes the least sense... y/m/d ftw

On a relative side note, the imperial system's units (similar to hours, seconds, and the degrees in a circle) are designed to maximize the prime factorization of a given unit of measurement. If you're a fan of one-thirds of things (and who isn't!), and not a fan of infinitely repeating decimals...

...yeah, ok, the metric system is better. But you'll never convince me on the date thing, that's just silly.

op also hasn't served in the US miliary either. D M Y format is common there. I worked elec. maintenance as a Marine so I also learned Julian calender too.

Air Force Aircraft Environmental and Electrical Systems. I almost forgot about the julian calendar. The calendar that requires a conversion chart. Ugh May, you never have to convert julian day 248 into Sep 5th again.

Y / M / D is superior from a sorting and organizing perspective. But so is the metric system from a measurement perspective.

Amusing thread. Smile And so beautifully stays classy in accepting a honest mistake, and instead of spiralling down into GD rather everybody exposes their personal dateformat fetish. Big smile

Unwilling to stay on the sidelines, jumping in myself naturally.

There's really no reason to sort date representations alphanumerically. Short of a log file.

Not really. You could easily make the sorting from right to left, then D/M/Y is the same as Y/M/D. Most people just prefer whatever they grew up with. So Americans will forever make me visit them in the wrong month on the wrong day if they surprise me with their M/D/Y bullshit. Lol

How about the USA finally progresses out of the middle age into modern age and uses proper date and time format, let alone measurement units?
