I am thrilled to hear that CCP wants us to be able to customize our ships. I understand that this is something of a first-step, and not representative of what the final product will look like.

That said, I thought we all agreed that AUR need to be given a swift death? Why are they being dredged up for use in painting ships?

Why does ship painting need to have a cost associated with it? I really like how we can customize our characters at will, for me it is one of the best features in EVE. I thought it was a foregone conclusion that painting our ships would be the exact same deal. Please don't introduce microtransactions here, just let us paint our ships as much and as often as we would like without charging for a paint job.

The vocal minority was mad about incarna price points. There were very few complaints about lower price vanity items.

Sure.
And then let us put any modules and rigs on them as much as we like for free too, right?
If you want to play around with ships, go play on sisi. It'll probably get free ship skins too.

Free character customization only extends to certain stock items; other items you have to pay for. Why should ships be different?

Microtransactions are an industry-wide thing. For subscription MMOs and paid games too. There is no point in which this is unusual or inappropriate in the current game industry. The important thing is CCP is committed currently to vanity items only. And the primary issue was the initial pricing of AUR stuff being too high (monocles being $70, t-shirts in game costing more than t-shirts from the EVE store shipped to your house, etc.)

AUR, as a thing, is here to stay. Get used to it and get over it.

This is actually a hugely great thing that it's funded separately. It means that rather than devoting subscription money to developing vanity items, subscription money can continue to fund new features and a better game, while vanity items can fund vanity items. A win-win for all involved.

And if you really don't want to pay for it with real money PLEX the Aur. Most other games don't let you get micro transaction items except by paying. Yes someone else bought the PLEX but id rather spend some isk on a PLEX to get this than my own money.

Maybe the "Spray Painting" skill.

Don't be fooled. The "new" CCP ain't givin' nuthin' away.

Do you have a source on this? You think subscription money funds new features and a better game? Hah, I'm pretty sure it funds Dust 514 and Valkyrie.

I don't have a problem with vanity items. All of my characters have vanity items. Why not just let players customize their ships like they customize their characters. We're talking about letting players personalize their game experience. Why punish players by attaching a cost?!? I know EVE wants to be hardcore, but destructible vanity items? WTF?

You are aware you can buy aur/plex with ingame isk yes? No need to fork out extra cash for it.

All in all, I like the custom skin for ships idea (and it won't be aur only, the neatest skin is actually with LP, the Concord police skin for the Navy comet!)

YES! Imagine how awesome it would be to have fleets of catalysts all around highsec with pictures of James 315 on the hulls.

It would be like James himself is with us for every bump and gank.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

Its fine.

If you would actually read the dev blog it would have told you that it's a BPC that you buy to paint your ship.

Also I wish people would stop complaining about having to pay real $$$ for them when they clearly said you could use isk.

Aye. EvE is already pay to play... And Aurum needs to die. Paint should be free, or at the very least, an ISK sink.

The idea of paying to customize something likely to be destroyed does seem a bit ridiculous, frankly. How many players would buy monocles for their avatars if those monocles were destroyed whenever they got podded?

Maybe if a purchased paint job automatically applies to any ship your character owns of the given type, then it might be a viable option. But if it only applies to one ship, then there is hardly any incentive to use this on anything that will ever see battle.

I doubt it'd be used if it's icon filled the entire screen, but alas one can dream.

People paying for prepainted skins ? Why not. The more money ppl pump into the game the better it is for me :D

Custom personal nose art ? Well some of it will be tasteless but, unlike a flight sim where you are right on the tail of the bogie and can see his paint in detail, no-one is that likely to even look at it and it will not slow the server much. There is always the legal issue to worry about with symbols like the Russian Star and the Swastika being banned in many countries around the world.

As far as custom skins go, I am of two minds. I spent many years making custom historical skins for the IL2 game and its a great creative way of wasting a few hundred hours. HOWEVER custom full skins would create server load and many of them will be atrocious and horrible to look at.

You are really space poor if you think people give two ***** about what equals to a 9mill isk paintjob on a frig.....

oh no, my fully fit punisher is now 20mill isk instead of 10.5....... what would I ever do.....

The price point looks solid and the change is purely cosmetic. Good addition imo.
