Hi, Id like to discuss a few things here,..

What could it be and the reasons behind someone wanting to DDOS CCP ??

Lets bring it down to where it all started.

1- Why do you think CCP is getting DDOSed?
2- Do you think CCP brought this upon itself?
3- What did CCP might have done wrong?

Just looking for reasons, because people dont ddos others for no reason.

Share your thoughts.

You know what? Actually, I would believe this is intentionally targeted at CCP, and that they brought it on themselves. Last time they came under attack, everyone got free skillpoints.

Who's to say this isn't an attack for the express purpose of getting free skillpoints again?

There were plenty of us at the time against the issuing of free SP for this very reason, so if this is indeed the case.... don't say we didn't warn you.

People totally do ddos for no reason, yeah.

And just because you can't keep up with current events, they did it to Blizzard, too, as well as quite a few other companies(EBay too, I think). It's coming out of India, is the running thought.

So "they" are just hitting as many targets as they can.

My above theory aside, this seems more plausible. The NTP amplification is a rather new toy that web analysts are having a slightly more difficult time mitigating, AFAIK. And just like another schoolyard yo-yo craze, there are a bunch of kids with new toys that want to not only play with them, but show them off.

No, because then one **** behind a NAT does something that results in EVERYBODY behind the NAT being banned. It would mean anybody not on a fixed IP has a chance of being seen as banned, even when they are not. Forget the concept of an IP address being able to identify something on the internet. The whole idea of public and private networks make it unrealistic. Even IPv6 will not solve the issue as you can have computers shared between individuals.

Much as people would liek the DDOS attacks to be CCP fault somehow, it is rather unlikely.

Has there even been a confirmed Ddos attack? Have ccp said anything? Since not everyone is having issues with conection, something we ususaly haw when a server is getting Ddosed. I would speculate that the issue with conection have something to do with the latest patch sqrewing up some peoples conection localy between their own computer and internet conection. Maybe check firewall settings on router and computer or map a new port?

You get a new IPv6 temporary address each reboot on Windows:

ipconfig output

IPv6 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 2001:470:xxxx:e:edb4:40a9:b00b:135(Preferred)
Temporary IPv6 Address. . . . . . : 2001:470:xxxx:e:3d79:cd83:b00b:135(Preferred)

So IPv6 is a solution and far more entertaining than IPv4.

99.9% of the time these things are usually due to something the company did to **** someone off. Take the 2011 hacking of SOE, PSN, & Sony by Anon just because of the arrest of a guys who hacked a ps3 game. So generally this is something CCP if you go with the status quo CCP brought it upon themselves.

I just realised you said this.

Sure they do. But then again, "***** & giggles" are enough of a reason to do anything these days.

You mean, like using a video game out of context (that is, paying no heed to the ingame fictional narrative and having no interest im building it), and logging in with the express purpose of making random people mad IRL?

If I were a cybercriminal looking to DDoS for profit somehow, I wouldn't go straight for Lloyds of London. I'd make damn sure my system worked.

What better way than targetting a community that has a very active forum, so you can measure just how much of an impact your crimes are having?

CCP tends to be more of an instigator then a victim.

If the reason was to make you mad IRL, then the reason wouldn't be "***** & giggles" would it. If you're getting mad IRL over a video game, then I would suggest you aren't enjoying said game.

And also, the last I checked, you can't play EVE out of context because it's a sandbox, with an in-game narrative developed by the players.
