Playing Eve for free!

o7 all!

I am not a very experienced player; somewhere between 1 and 2 years under my belt. I'm sure it's been done many times before, but just thought it'd be fun to start a new account and try to play Eve without spending any (real) money whatsoever and ask if anyone would like to join me!

In my opinion, making the money to pay for the Eve subscription and then using the ISK you make in-game to have fun is the best way to play Eve - as it is just that, a game. However, as a challenge, I am going to freeze my current account and try to play this game entirely for free!

I'm going to try this using the 21-day trial from a buddy invite, and will probably begin some time in the next fortnight.

Anyone is welcome to join, however, I posted this on the forums with the aim of mainly attracting players with around 1+ years experience who either have problems funding their accounts or would simply like to have a go at playing for free!

Let me know, and fly safe :)

Getting some losec planets and selling P2s (the sweet spot for most PI, P3s break even and P4s currently sell for less than they cost to make) will get you about 25% of your monthly subs straight away.

So you are going to open and close accounts to see how much isk you can make in 21 days.

To feed your main account I can tell you not that much at all because you need to train your skills up to get into better ships for the LvL 4 missions.

I for one has kept this account going for 7 + years now and I use plexes to pay for this account.

So you will not win at all doing what you are doing and it takes along time to train SP so what you are doing is useless.

BTW Good Luck in trying

Thanks for the post!

In essence, I just wanted to have a go at running an account for free from scratch. As much as l4s generate a lot of isk, it's not the only way to generate enough to plex an account is it?

With current PLEX prices around the 630 million mark, that's quite a bit for a new character to grind out without a subscription.

So what are you thinking in terms of potential incomes that will earn the ISK just to be able to play at all, let alone have fun.

Scamming, ninja looting, market trading (very slowly at first)?

You certainly won't be able to grind that sort of ISK out in missions, mining or other similar professions in the initial stages.

Very valid point.

Like you say, there's no chance of achieving this through missioning and such. I originally thought PI and trading would be the main two, although the less honest means like scamming etc are very viable :)

I might add that generating enough to earn a plex in the first 21 days is the priority but I would very much like to have a bit of fun on this new account as well. Not gonna be a total grind!

The Making ISK guide has some ideas which would be suitable for a low-SP character.

Thank you for the advice! Just had a read, I'm sure it'll come in handy.

Cheers again :)

The section marked 'Various Acts of Dubious Morality' is looking more and more appealing - especially in the beginning :)

Exactly what I thought the time I tried it on my main account! The only defense I have in this case is that I'm trying this as a project. I agree, it will be a bit of a grind in the beginning, but I believe it will become less of a job in the future :)

Just wanted to quote something I just found on that Evelopedia page:

"The goal is not "maximise ISK/h". The goal is typically "maximise both ISK/h and fun/h with an acceptable exchange rate between ISK and fun". Some people find mission running fun. Some people find ratting fun. Some people find manufacturing fun. Some people find micromanaging buy/sell orders fun."

Trying this as I want to see if it's possible to play Eve for free and from scratch. I intend to have fun doing this. If it really turns out to be too much of a chore, I'm happy to start paying again - I'm not mad :)

if you can get into a c3 wh with the right setup you can solo some if not all the sites fairly easily. Depending on how fast you do them, you can net around 300m an hour. But that's clearing a site every 10 min and getting lucky in nano ribbons. My 3 chars can clear a c3 site around every 10 min. so its do able, i'm not sure how quickly you can solo though.

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

Cheers chaps, those both sound pretty appealing. Don't suppose either of you fancy joining be or teaching me!?

Also, I would have thought C3s would be out of the question for a brand-new toon, wouldn't it require a decent amount of training?

Id second the FW alt thing from the start up to get isk right away. Toughest part there will be LP conversion to a trade hub in relative safety with a new character.

Then train up your toon to do whatever else you really enjoy. Also PI passive is a good idea as well. But to make isk and not wait for skills itll be FW and low sec.

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

Sounds ideal, I think this is what I'll try. Never done Faction Warfare before. What exactly does it entail and what is the profitable part? Really know nothing in this area...

Grab a punisher, fit 4 warp core stabs in the lows, a prototype cloak in the highs, then go sit within 30 km of a button (better to defensively plex contested systems initially so you aren't agressed by the NPCs).

Fall asleep and wait until the plex is capped. Rinse and repeat.

If you are killed by a neutral, just get podded too.

Not only is it a quicker ride back to a new ship, but you can sell the kill rights on the character and generate more ISK too (even on players with pirate standings, some people act faster then they think and you can get paid).

Damn, that sounds really good. Does the actual afk capture make you much in the way of lp? (I'm assuming it's lp you earn - sorry for noob...)
