I remember when People find out that Bell Canada throttle any traffic that is involved with games.

lucky for us that ruling was in gamer favor that Bell can't throttle anything.

Why did they want to throttle gaming traffic ?

it begin when few gamers notice lags on games, then talk to group that is responsible for video game, idk name.

Anyway they inspect and find out that Bell throttle all P2P traffic (torrent), and it happen that some games use torrent, WoW and Call of Duty Black Ops for example, for download patch. So, they list all server that engage in P2P traffic to be throttle even if most of its traffic is not torrent.

anyway, it is few years ago and CTRC (Communication Telephone Radio Canada) rule that IP provider including Bell is not allowing to throttle any traffic for any reason.

I work for a major ISP as front line tech support (not a USA one don't kill me), and sadly the truth is we get weeks of training for 99% of all problems but if after 3 tries you haven't gotten your specific problem fixed, cancel and try a provider that runs on a different infrastructure. Complicated issues surrounding traffic shaping or packet loss not directly related to the lines to your house or the modem itself, there's nothing we can do. Enjoy screaming at us though, we totally love it.

Also, lol a falcon.

Haha, yeah, I love flying falcon. :) Helps even up the "numbers".

On the related note, was informed, after 4 days that my brother told me that even the reps themselves were like "what? really?". To make the real story short, it got sorted. Still retain the current internet and the $200 fee is waived off, but with slightly higher cost per month. Which was from $240'ish to $280. This is the plan with the TV, net, and telephone package.

Still, 4 days man.

I probably do. I remember the good ol' days were modem dail-up internet, download between 3-5kb/s. Used that for good 1-2ish years, with AOL. Lots of d/c'ing, phone calls, etc. Then went to have DSL, to download 150kb/s. Yadda yadda. :)

Haha, I'm not a tech but when they installed our X1 here they guy did it totally wrong.

The guy put the MoCA filter right behind my DVR and it was blocking the signal to the other rooms in the house. So I took it off and put it where its supposed to be. On the drop right before it goes to the splitter for the house. All they had there was a regular ground block and not the filter.

I was gonna call them but decided I could fix it in less time it takes to call them.

Hell no, i generally hate installing x1 because it's almost always a re-wire on one or more outlets. Our transmit can't be above 51 is that true for you as well?

That guy was either new or too lazy to go back out to the ground block as he should to put the filter there. putting it on the back of the dvr just blocks part of the signal from hitting the other set top boxes, which would block them from viewing your dvr's recordings (some or all of them). I'd check other things as well if he was dumb enough to do that.

On all new installs we're supposed to be using ground blocks that have MoCA filters built into them as of a few months ago. future proofing and all that

Comcast ... oh how happy I am since I moved and had the option to get a new isp.

I had non-stop disconnects. Several times a day. It made any grouping type online game unplayable.

I work in telecom (wireless) but I have the ability to sweep test all my own coax lines. I kept telling them that the problem was not in my house but they kept sending out new guys trying to fix my problem. This is after about an hour each time trying to wade through the automated call directory and then answering the standard "Yes it's plugged into the wall" questions.

Great that they kept sending guys out ... bad that the "new" guy had none of the "previous" guys information.

Each time they would start out testing my home lines wasting hours with no results... No matter how many times I would tell them that the problem line was up on the poles. All my neighbors had the same issues but they gave up and dealt with it. It's an older neighborhood and I was clearly the only gamer.

I went through this for about two years until they finally brought a boom truck in and swapped out the coax lines coming into the neighborhood. Done.

Hope the old neighborhood appreciates my efforts!

*** for what it's worth .. all the techs that worked on my issue were good guys and good workers.. they were just as frustrated as I was that they had to follow "procedure". The sad part is that they were graded on solving the issue and in what time frame. I knew as soon as they rolled up they would fail. :(
