Are we able to rename planets, PI colonies, and systems? What about stations, POS, and Outposts? I think it would make the game more interactive if we could? Especially for corps and alliances because it makes their systems more personalized and develop a sense of ownership. It could also help contribute to the fiction in EVE as well. I just think it'd be awesome.

Nothing makes the game more immersive than when you lead a roam from [ASCII phallus] all the way to [longer ASCII phallus].

That's one hell of a rough pipe to roam down.

So...that's pretty much why we don't have namable systems...and why we cant have nice things.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

That doesn't make any sense. Could you explain that line of thought further?

The last thing I want is to have to set destination to the "dickbutt" solarsystem. This isn't the only reason however. Planet 5 should always mean planet 5, EC-P8R will always be EC-P8R even if some people want to call it something else. Changing the names of cosmographical (?) locations would just be a nightmare.

It could work and could be a very nice addition to the EVE Universe (systems named by players) but it would have to be carefully monitored by CCP so we don't get full body anatomy down in Goon land.

Also, what happens when someone takes over said system? Do they get to rename it as well? That's going to get confusing quickly.

On one hand, I like the idea. To make it work, CCP just go heavy handed banhammering all involved with poor judgement decisions of system names. And I mean, cost the players tons of real life money for bad behaviour of their IP.

On the other hand though, I worry that 'history' will be lost. The B-R fight would not make any sense if the system became known as "G'Thanx Sigma 6" for 3 months, then "SpanD'llah Delta 2" the next.

The pollution of the rich history of EVE is too much of a cost for anyone to bear.

Considering the ISDs were wildly trolled with a 'bro-fist salute' fleet formation, I'm not sure CCP have the time or resources to dedicate to stopping players taking the **** out of their unpaid minions. Although we wouldn't have o-****/HED/something-*** etc if they were devoid of humour in the first place.

Maybe the simpler thing would be to rename core choke points. +1 for GRRR Gwns / Fix Lag / Boot.ini / $1000 dollar jeans/ I don't even know what the offside rule is, please repeat transversal / I really loved that ship-whyyy etc

We could have a once yearly lottery with a list of system names up for grabs where the best/worst one wins. If you fail to vote, can't vote on the CSM and/or lose 2m sp.

Or, they could just allow us to manually rename systems for internal corp/alliance, with no rules, for erh, immersion.

Seriously... This is.. I honestly dunno how to reply to this without making my 'are you stupid' face. So here we go...

REALLY?!?!

Things do not change names often if ever in the real world. Why would joe blow alliance be able to randomly change system names? First from a programing standpoint it would be a pita to have to change all the bodies, planets, moons, belts, labels etc of a system every time to changed. DT would be longer.

Second, no star body has its named changed, no land mass has its name changed, cities rarely change names, why would this be different in a game?

Earth has always been Earth, you can call it whatever the hades you want, but its always Earth. Everest has always been Everest since it was 'discovered' Athens has been Athens for thousands of years. The pacific ocean has been that for centuries. Imagine if names changed daily. HED-GP becomes 'My butt" today, then tomorrow "Stupid name alpha" it would cause confusion, and makes zero since logically. Hell look at the confusion when countries randomly change names.

Much like a country, that's is what the alliance is, its borders and owners change but the land mass (star system) remains whatever it is scientifically called. Because that makes more since.

And you can already rename outpost and pos'.

The game doesn't need to reflect the real world, it is a virtual one?

Yes, i would really like to see the shithead, drugwhore, testicle, ****, yourmomsucksme, =========D~~~, **********, etc systemnames ... (hope the profanity filter kicks in, else i'm prolly getting a warning or ban :p)

Ofcource when they change owner, they'll just get changed to something else offensive. maybe make it changable ever 2 hours, just so you can't coordinate an assault to it cause noone knows where they are going.

POS can be named too, as can each and every individual POS module.

Pilot 1 - "I said go to Yourass."
Pilot 2 - "I am in Yourass"
Pilot 3 - *giggles*
Pilot 1 - "No you're not, your in... ****, they changed the system names again, you are in Yourass now, but you need to be in Myass!"
Pilot 3 - *giggles*
Pilot 2 - "Fine, how do I get to Myass"
Pilot 3 - "Well, you reach between your legs..."
Pilot 1 - "You jump MyMum.."
Pilot 3 - "Like everyone else in fleet has..."

I thing I need to stop editting in extra lines, I really could go on all day like this.

Seriously though OP, Nullsec player-owned stations are namable, take a look on Dotlan at a few regions, and you'll get a clue about general player "imagination", and POS towers are also namable, so what you want is doable to enough an extent that doesn't completely screw with navigation like naming systems would do.

Or the Uranus system?

Personalized planet naming...now there's a thought....
(What gives me the idea the F-word would find some prominent and prolific use here?)
Leave the thinking to those with a gift for it.

IIRC, that was a random number generator with a sense of humor. A random number generator seeded with the number 42.

Because they systems were discovered by the empire scientist, and scientist tend to not use specific names.

Anyway, the point is.. no, its a dumb idea because it would be confusing as hell

The only non-destroyable item you can rename is a station I think.

In the meantime there's nothing stopping you from renaming solarsystems. Just cant put it on the map. Starpeople IRL have all kinds of nicknames for dull things in the universe. They just switch back to the "official" name when required (conferences, books etc).
