Program Update Tommorrow Nov. 29th - Set a long training skill ...

For those not familiar with this process ... CCP is going to release an update to the game tomorrow.

You just never know how these things are going to go.

Typically ... there's the release ... then several serious bugs that require a hot patch almost immediately ... then a few days later there's another one to take care of the things that went wrong that are just really annoying or that they couldn't fix no matter how bad they are in time for the first hot patch. Then ... after a while ... there's usually a third.

Hopefully - everything will be fine.

In case it isn't ...

It's a good idea to put a skill in your queue that takes at least several days. That way - if things really go south and you can't even log in to update your skills queue - you'll be cool.

Check the web site under the EVE Information Portal for Feed Back and Issues threads.

If something is terribly wrong (like say ... the game deleting files required by the operating system ...) at least you will learn about it there from those on the bleeding edge - rather than finding out the hard way ... Oh and ... yes ... a few years ago one of the updates did that ...

+1 for letting new players know that extended DT can be extended even more.

I really suggest to put in a skillqueue that takes up to 5 days or more to complete, just in case.

How long is this usually?

The longest training skill I currently want will only last a few days... Evil

Anywhere from an hour to a couple days. Sometimes there's no issue, sometimes it's a day or two before you can really log in again, sometimes it takes a week or two before you can be completely sure the servers are fully stable again. Just toss a lvl 5 skill on and you should be fine, even a rank 1 skill should still be training when you can get back on.

Realistically, I highly doubt there'll be more than 12-24 hours of down time, but it's better safe than sorry.

And if you're REALLY paranoid, back up all your files and make copies of your root directories... you know... in case of another boot.ini situation.

My patch day routine:

#1) Set a long skill in training the day before. 3-5 days just in case they set the servers on fire trying to jam 10 pounds of shlt in a 5 pound bag.

#2) Whatever time they say the servers will be back online, just check the forums in general discussion around that time to see how far behind they are.

#3) After it's announced that the servers are back up wait another 2-3 hours and check the forums to make sure they aren't overheating machines or deleting important files.

#4) Download and apply the bugs....um I mean expansion.

I'm sure doing this work isn't easy or predictable and I'm not talking down on the developers....just being honest.

More or less my typical patch-day too. Usually when I have the time I will roam around the forums too read fun stuff or find certain things. Also during the last 2 patches my alliance did a large general meeting (time to ask leadership some difficult questions) as everybody is free at that time (at least isn't shooting spaceships in EVE).
