I need help understanding deminishing returns on modules

What is the formula for the returns on modules that give dimishing retruns (ie: shield hardeners, ballistic controls, target painters, etc).

One of my alts will be golem capable soon, and I want to have a fitting layout already planned out and I want to make the most out of the target painter bonus as possible. Thanks

I believe the term you're looking for is 'stacking penalty', which is all you need to find the pertinent information.
