Quieter systems?

Hey

I think I've seen reference to using the map to find quieter systems, I've had a fiddle about but don't see an obvious way to do this.
Any pointers?

Background stuff, not part of the question
Why, well I'd like to move into PVP but replacing my Rifter is costing a little around 3 mil a go with my current set up, I realise this isn't much but I really don't like mining although 4 runs would cover this cost. I do though enjoy Exploration and 1 of the first relic sites I found netted me nearly 6 mil in a .6 K-space.
This would be my preferred option but I can go whole sessions without finding a single site, I'm lead to believe that there is a lot of competition in for these and hence I would like to find quieter systems to increase my chances.
tbh I don't even know what constitutes a busy or quiet system, I'm hanging out in Rens and before I logged off there was 192 people in local. a couple of jumps away and it can drop into the teens or lower.

Im only at 1.3mil skill points so even when I do find a site, sometimes I can only scan down to 91%

its quite simple. Use the in game map and dotlan.

Look for:

Jumps last 24h
Kills / podkills last 24h
Npc kills last 24h
Players in space

That should be easy enough to find low activity systems.

^^

Last 24h is good for finding places to go, last 1h is good for actually planning travel.

192 people in local is far from a quiet system, though. That number says 'trading hub' or 'mission hub' where many players are active. Systems can also be small or large, and it also depends on what they are doing. I'd say find a system off the beaten path (not in between these hubs) that has less then 5 people in local most of the time with most of them mining. These are usually good spots to use exploration skills.

If you have low scanning skills, you might want to use those rigs that increase scan strength by 10%. Two tech 1 rigs should fit on an exploration frigate. You can also use Sister scanner probes that give you another extra 10%. These are a tad more expensive, but don't require more skills to use.

Read again, he said Rens...makes it one of the main trade hubs.

If you are comfortable with lowsec, look into Fasse.

It's in a quiet corner of Sinq Laison, and I have never seen a gatecamp there and only once have I seen more than three other people in local. Often I'm alone when I travel through the system.

While it is 0.4, it is surrounded by quite quiet 0.5 systems - Ala, Ney, Stegette and Odotte. Egghelende (0.4) is nearby but is busy and extremely dangerous.

Combat sites in a 0.4 will be far beyond a Rifter's capabilities, but the other exploration sites are doable and there's often 5 or 6 signals in Fasse.

In general, if you are 10 or more jumps from a trade hub, and NOT in Caldari space, you should be able to find a low-pop system. Though born Caldari, I mostly "grew-up" in Amarr space for this reason.

I recommend only mining in systems where the number of people in local is less than the number of asteroid belts. Yes, lots of such systems exist.

Example: The system I regularly do missions in has an average pop of 35, with the adjacent systems having average pops around 7.

In contrast, I today I spotted a fleet of about a dozen Hyperion battleships, with every member flagged as a suspect, about 3 jumps from Jita. Quite a rare site to see even one suspect battleships, and I exhaled deeply when they warped-off as I was in a Charon freighter.

"Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space."

Twelve suspect Hyperions is an interesting sight. What on earth are they trying to goad into attacking them?

And other than an Arazu or Lachesis, what is there that can kill two Hyperions but would not be able to kill twelve?

Edit: Unless they are returning from a POS bash in lowsec where the attack on the POS was Crimewatch-illegal.

People above have answered your map question, but in terms of your specific problem:

If you're looking for low-traffic high-sec exploration in the Rens area, you can't really do any better than Derelik.

Keep in mind that other explorers also try to visit "slow" systems.

you are better of in a system with 100jumps of which 5 explorers, than a system with 30jumps and 10explorers!
