I was wondering whether anyone knew of a way of creating eve maps similar to that of dotlans. From what i can tell it uses SVG rendering, but as far as data and locations anyone got any advancement on how to do this?

right now I'm waiting for the dust map layout to be released. There have been indications that it may be in the next dust static data extract. (yes, it's eve's starmap.)

It's much like the dotlan layout. Unfortunately, doing that style of map requires human intervention to make it useful. very hard to do with an algorithm.

1) Placing the systems by hand is the only way to go, everything else generated and calculated is not as good as hand placement. Sadly. This is what the CCP Devs found out and they had to remap the 2d universe by hand as well.

2) The DUST 2d Map is nice, but it was optimized for a Standard Definition TV Screen (cause of DUST being a console game). Therefore the DUST Map will only give you a constellation view. For a PC with high resolution this might be a bit vaste of screen space if you only display 5-8 system + links to other systems of other constellations.

Universe map with regions links > Region map with links to constellations > Constallation map with links to systems.
