CCP:

You have caught me on a really bad day and all because I have been unable to get rid of this cold that is giving me pains across my entire body. So, as such the subject is worded to GET YOUR ATTN.

Hows about instead of releasing a patch every damn godforsaken day of the week you release ONE patch on a set day of the week. I launch the game through the exefile.exe in the bin directory cause quite frankly your launcher is the most buggy launcher out of the entire library of launchers I have used: WOW, SWOTR, and LOTRO.

Why the crap would I have to download the patch TWICE and a HALF? from the exefile.exe ONCE AND then download a new launcher (This is the Half)and then again via the launcher just to satisfy your file requirements to play the game.

Can we quit with the blasted corporate sharades of trying to sell buddy tickets, advertising monuments, and w/e content you desire to put in the launcher when if I as a member of the eve-o community want to actually see it will visit your WEBSITE in a browser of my choosing?

Thank you and this is all, ban me for good from the forums. ban my entire account, etc.... Just get rid of the damn launcher dependency and actually give the community via your WEBSITE to opt in/out of the launcher dependency. It cant be that hard.

login via any means necessary
If exefile.exe.process.active && !launcher process.active
Use login information from said source
if client.launcher.use
download and install patch once
download and install new launcher
download and install patch inside of launcher again
else
Just use the damn path installation routine once
end sub(if youre a VB guy) or "}"

Count yourself lucky. Once it did mess with your installation, you're in for some fun.

I joined eve back right before the Apocrypha expansion.

( old man voice) Back in myyy day .... It was normal for eve to die once every 3 days on average. Would die for 4 hours at a time.

Disconnects, patches, the market didn't load....so emergency restarts to load market.

I still curse while logging in and having to endure through the gauntlet of sadness that is the log in/character change method.

i have to say the launchers pretty broken, aside from regularly erasing all my account names randomly if theres a mini 12mb patch i've had more noticable problems such as it instantly entering not responding mode for days on end

I do wonder what people are doing to get all of these problems.

Its more what they're not doing. And what they're not doing is being good at computers.

I don't have a real problem with the launcher apart from the fact that it seems unfinished. It needs an option to remember your password as well as the option to log straight into a character rather that press button twice for character selection then select character. It seems cynically designed to hold you at the advert reading part for longer than is really necessary.

Uhm...
- Entering credentials (for some it is selecting the account they want to log in with, I guess)
- Click "Play" to launch Eve
- Click Character to log in with that character

I don't see any cynical design here XD

Mind elaborating on this with regard to the launcher?

I'm always interested in learning something new, when it helps to avoid annoyances.

Current system:
Click to open launcher
Select account (usually remembered by launcher)
Enter password for account (should be remembered)
Click log-in to launch option to play EVE
Click play to launch client and get character selection screen
Select character
(Usually there is a mini patch and some of the above will be delayed or repeated)

What I would prefer to happen is; download and configure the launcher with account information, option to save passwords and set up launcher for multiple accounts. Include the option to forget credentials on guest computers. The launcher should also download and apply all patches in the background and include options to launch SISI versions of accounts and retain SISI patches for TQ where relevant.

So if the launcher is set up on a private computer and correctly configured:
Click to open the EVE character launcher icon, see configured accounts and character portraits straight away
Click on my desired character - next step is to find myself in station/space.

EFT configured for multiple accounts is close to what this should look like in practice.

well what i did was i played eve, then dt came along and it logged me out like it does if you have the game open still.

I then waited till the launcher showed the server was back online so i attempted to log in.

** Still with me here? i havent done anything insanely stupid yet? good, just making sure **

so i type in m password and click the "log in" button

** again thats the right button right? to make the launcher log me in? ok again just making sure **

immediately half my launcher turns black and it stops working.

** So im not a computer programmer with a masters degree in software coding, but even i know thats not what its supposed to do. **

After some time of looking at the launcher frozen half blacked out i closed it because well, i could have stared at it in such a state for a thousand years, or i could retry it??

And it entered "Not Responding" mode immediately, and did so for 3 days straight untill the exefile suddenly pulled a launcher update which fixed the problem. Also the repair tool returned an error and couldnt fix it either.

I await a detailed analysis of what i did wrong in entering my password and clicking log in. Seriously

I like all these patches. I play others games and then you wait an entire week for a problem to be "patched". If you play offline games it may even take months for a patch to arrive that fixes half the stuff at best.

I'm quite pleased with CCP fixing stuff fast and making sure my game is as solid as they can make it.

That is what folks usually experience with the launcher, when it goes berserk. You were even lucky, that it only took them three days to fix it. I had to wait for 3 weeks for a fix last september, when it suddenly stopped working out of nowhere.

Though I can see where Baltec and others come from. I looked back on almost three years without a single installation or update problem until then. Only reading about all the issues other people had.

While I agree with you, I'd prefer a smoother way to download/save/apply patches and log-in.

I am so bad at computers that my daughters just laugh at me and pat me on the head.

Fortunately for me, the 'new' launcher has always worked without any issues.

For some of us, the launcher is just a safe, easy and reliable way to download patches and log into the game.

Well done CCP Smile

Well, at least well done from those of us that the launcher works for.

Edit, if the launcher did remember passwords, I wonder how long it would be before CCP gets flooded with reimbursement petitions based on, but I was not even at home when someone logged into my game and lost my Titan etc?

This is not a signature.
