East Coast US is working fine. Just finished a 2 hour session and theres around 36,000 people logged in.

Launching 5 accounts from the exe file and no delay.

Bullshit. I'm East Coast US myself, and I've been having massive intermittent issues. 3 of my 4 accounts will not log on, and this one will only for a little while, then disconnects whenever I try to view contacts or do a name lookup.

This is freaking ridiculous.

One of ours, ten of theirs.

This is the biggest load of crap. You obviously haven't been around when Falcon and others have been up in the office at 2-4am in the morning patching servers and mitigating attacks to keep the game running for us.

For the record, east coast Australian here, and doing fine. No notable issues at all. Didn't even know this was happening.

Well excuse me while you play the game like nothing at all is amiss. Why do i bother playing the game anyway, i should just pay them and not play at all.

Also would you call "Falcon and others"? They're late for being my heroes. Oh right... Not on the weekends...

Having trouble logging in right now.

Concurrent logins is 32k, lower than usual for this time on a weekend.

I'm concerned about skill point reimbursement. In 4 hours my queue will be empty. Time = money in eve as with everything else, even if I'm not logging in I pay monthly for my skills to train. I don't think I need to make an argument as to why an empty skill queue sucks.

ArrowSo my question CCP; will we be reimbursed for potential skill point loss? The difference between the time our recent skill has finished and the time the servers come back up would be sufficient if granted in SP/hour or something.

Thank you for this consideration. Big smile

No, you're missing the point. If we're not having trouble here, and you are there, then the point is that the attack is regional.

The other point is that, if you don't think CCP are willing to work weekends to keep their servers running, you're mistaken. If you think they aren't working on this, you're mistaken. I get that you feel a bit like throwing a tantrum over this, not being able to play what you're paying for sucks, but you're throwing your tantrum at the wrong people. CCP didn't DDOS their own servers.

So grow the **** up, and learn to handle things with a little rational thought and maturity maybe?

Had the "black screen of death' trying to connect earlier today.
Then was working fine for about 4 hours.
Now, none of my characters can log in.

On East Coast, US.

Almost without question, it is still the DDoS attack....and I don't blame CCP for not saying too much more on it right now...

whoa... this is very VERY weird... i was able to log on and change skills from my PC (as opposed to my laptop that i normally log on from) which is just a few feet away from me. wtf man?

maybe i need to reboot my laptop? my pc had to download a patch and then it was able to log in. I'm not sure what is going on here. ... also, i should probably close my petition since i was able to get my next skill to start training.

((((( maybe a reboot will fix the problems my laptop is having???? )))))

Naw, I been rebooting and repairing stacks and accounts for at least 18 hours.

EDIT: Just ran repair from the folder, then booted launcher and in settings selected clear cache for the second or third time and boot in safe mode and it finally let me login a character. SOme forum post said to keep banging on it so I started repeating previous methods. repairs and caches etc.

This worked on my car today too. It suddenly stopped starting, everything worked except the starter relays which was pretty freakie. Anyhow I remembered about five years ago to bang my ground terminal even though it looked perfect. BIngo rubber hammer, favorite tool, second only to swiss army knife.

Now that you mention it...

Im on a laptop as well and im pretty sure someone else in this thread mentioned that the same happened to them (could log in with a desktop computer but not a laptop).

However, when it comes to computers i know close to 0 so can be a coincidence.

Asking for reimbursements is simply greedy. I'm grateful for what CCP has provided us, and this (probably) isn't their fault.

Anything that interrupts our ability to play from their end is by definition CCP's fault, either through apathy or lack of preparation.
That said I'm still not upset about it, CCP cant exactly control what every sad nerd does with their time for jollies. They CAN control what kind of defenses they employ.

Well it's not necessarily true that they can always prevent every failure.

In this case it sounds like a DDoS attack. Sure, there are services like CloudFlare that are DDoS protections, but they don't work 100% (they increase the amount of traffic a site can take, but not infinitely), and really only works on content like websites, not so much MMO services.

Welcome to the early 21st century Internet. DDoS is a current trend in cybersecurity that does not have a solid solution yet.

EDIT: Also, you have to consider the business decisions CCP has to make. Almost every company on the planet would go bankrupt if they employed the best protections against every type of known attack. They have to prioritize their budget based on vulnerability risk assessment.

DDoS has a very solid solution. Ingress/Egress filtering. Don't allow traffic to leave your network with a spoofed source address. The problem is that all service providers need to implement it, and very few seem to be doing so. If you can't spoof the origin of attacks, then the compromised machines can be instantly identified, and quarantined, therefore any given botnet can be used exactly once, for a period of at most the few minutes that it takes for the necessary phone calls to be made between service providers.

We've known about the fundamental problem underlying internet architecture and its solutions for at least a decade now. Major service providers are still dragging their heels on solving it, just as email providers dragged their heels on closing open relays a decade or so earlier, until they were pressured to fix the problem. Maybe someone will start pressing lawsuits for ISP negligence and the problem will go away?

http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2827 (the solution, first codified as "best current practice" by IETF in 2000 - 14 years ago, and still not being widely implemented.)

I have the same problem on login. Central/North Europe here.
Though I also had disconnects while playing yesterday, even lost a stabber.

Today I could play and do pvp after some failed login attempts.
