newbie to wh, not sure what ship to take in

I have both a tengu and a cal navy drake to take in, just not sure which one works better for a (I believe) a class 1 or 2 wh (was invited to join a old friend).. I was asking him and he said it didn't much matter to them as they use both armor and shield tanked ships so there's no set fleet rules outside of fitting a remote rep (based on the days fleet).

I was leaning towards the Drake until i realized that a cloak would be handy to have on it while running sites, or am I being paranoid and should just watch the scanner? ships setups that work for people? advice? take a cheaper ship at first to get the hang of it? pretty sure there are things I'm not aware of and will get flamed for some of my "stupid newbie' questions, but I have been around, just not there.

oh, he said something about a hit to self repair , but a bonus to remote rep if that narrows down the type of wh

For a c1-2 just use a drake. ALthough slower than the Tengu much less isk on the line. Also from the effect use a passive drake as natural sheild regen isnt effected by the nerf to sheild boosters and armor reppers.

Cloak isnt needed really just keep an eye on dscan and scout the wh in a covert ops first and you should be fine. Saying that ganks will always happen sometimes theres just nothing you can do about it.

Don't solo WHs, you're pretty much guaranteed to get ganked by a pair of wandering stealth-bombers or something.

However, if you insist on it, a standard passive-drake (non-faction) is a solid workhorse for missile pilots. Anything more expensive and you're not likely to earn enough to replace your ship by the time you get ganked (and you will get ganked).

My recommendation is to get a few people from your corp to try out diving wormholes with you. More fun, the per-person ISK is about as good/better because you'll be running them faster, and better chance of getting out alive when the inevitable attempted gank comes.

Bob is always present, watching you traverse space accessable only though wormholes. He is the constant reminder that there is always someone watching you, waiting for your moment of weakness to appear and claim his toll for collecting the bounty of his realm.

You can never be to paranoid when WH'ing, as Rastin stated it's only a matter of time until someone attempts to ruin your day.

  • D-scan is the heart beat that is keeping you alive, and the more people with a pulse the better your chances avoiding ganks (though granted it makes it all the sweeter for people like me when we catch you all regardless)
  • If you have alts then stick them on the entries into the system you are running and listen for the WH "activation sound".
  • In general, missile boats that others have mentioned, are your best bet as it's reliable DPS and easy to compensate with Target Painters.

  • Just know that we are always watching Pirate and it's more about escaping ganks than preventing them.

    EDIT:
If you plan to move into a WH, take in a PvP combat ship (up to you), a scan boat (Cov-Ops) and a Site running ship (Again Drake for C1-C2 sites) for your bare basics of living.

Also Bookmarks are your best friend in WH-space, treat them with the love and care they deserve.

Honestly if your new to WH stuff the best thing you could do for yourself is to find an established low-class corp/alliance and learn the ropes with them.

A lot of w-space is populated with cloaky people lurking about looking for exactly something like a solo drake doing anoms.

Is a halfway decent place to start looking. You can either learn to be prey or the predator. One of them is more fun then the other.

Welcome to the wormhole community. As stated a couple times above, you would be wise to start with a Drake for the time being. You will inevitably lose a few, so it's smart to cut your teeth on something more cost effective while you are learning the ropes. Over time you will start to understand more specifics, and through experience, you will be able to determine a good transition time to begin using other ships, particular fittings, and so on.

There are also plenty of resources on the forums. Feel free to continue asking questions and enjoy your time starting out, as eventually you'll look back and remember that first hole, and just like high school for some, you never forget your first :)

    Shocked no flames?....wow...
Ok, so I take it sleepers do omni damage? was playing around with evehq on ship fits (so far nothing I like) and sleepers are not listed, also it seems I saw on another thread that they are like 70% across the board on resits? how much does a drake need to be able to tank to solo a class 1 or 2 anoms? not that I plan on doing them solo any time soon, best I've done so far is about 250 omni damage "opps, 386 dps with a eff hp of 80K and a paltry damage dps of 276 using standard scourge HM".. will this work or do I need to change things up, if so suggestions.

I haven't done a passive tank drake in ages as I normally fly a tengu for mission running (its staying in normal space)...what I have are med core extender 1 X2, field purger 2 X1 (had it sitting there already), invlu hardener T2 , large f-s9 X2 cal navy em, therm and kin amps (I'm a mission whore what can I say)

*thought I had fitting issues, but I can put in T2 shield amps no problem so less gank bait
    ** lows have 2 bcu T2 X2 and spr T2 X2

Take in as many ships as possible, preferably all officer fits.

    There is no Bob.

Pretty much anything you fly into WH should be considered expended, so don't take anything you can't afford replaced.
