My friend is new to the game. He is Amarr.

I have firstly recommended for him to train his core skills (generally rank 1) and support skills up in the following categories:
- Armor/Shield
- Engineering
- Gunnery
- Navigation
- Targeting

After his core skills are at 5, and his support skills are at around 4, I have told him to then focus on tech 1 cruisers, battlecruisers and battleships.

He wants to do PvP and make ISK from PvE.

However, he seems like he prefers the Gallente side of PvP. Wondering if he should cross-train ASAP, after only his core skills have completed, and his support skills are at around 3 or 4?

Drone skills shouldn't be overlooked, particularly if he wants to fly Gallente.

All four Armour Compensaton Skills
Armour Reparior IV

Good Drone and hybrid Skills.

Make sure he's awear it will take at least a months before he has half decent skills. It helps to specilise in a Tech II cruiser or frigate, as it forces you to train good support skills.

Use the recommend skills for a particular ship you like, ignoring the skills you can justifie not training - as some have weird recommendations: IE Vindicator has two missile hardpoints, but no one ever uses them, as It can fit a full rack of hybrids, that it gets bounses too, however it suggests cruise missile and torp skills you wouldn't need.

If he fancies getting in to PvP as a new player, you could always send him to RVB. Since we mostly PvP in frigates and cruisers, it's generally easier on newer players to replace the losses. New players in battleships always ends bad, and they never have enough money to replace them. :P

The skills listed above are good btw. The newbie skill plan is a great list of things to train. You can find it here: LINK.
