In addition to what is mentioned in the article then: Not only are there no agents in Jita but agents outside Jita don't send pilots on missions into Jita, wormholes don't open in Jita, and (along with a few other systems) then all Planetary Interaction is prohibited in Jita.

The article also says something about 1,000 people...

1,000 people... lol

The wiki has been in need of fixing for awhile. Give me wiki permissions and I'll get to work.

I approve of the galactic walmart. It's the only place I can buy and sell anything at 1 location short of capital ships at decent prices.

The other galactic walmart is www.eve-bazaar.com but they might be sold out of capitals still, you'd have to check.

Yeah, misses out the "superhighways/removal of superhighways saga" and then Naga* being in Nyabainen (moved from Jita due to problems with people getting into system - the more things change etc) which both tended to drive people there after Yulai "died".

Pretty fair otherwise.

* Naga ended up the biggest "loot shop" back when you couldn't sell as much on the markets; then they did T2 production for people who got lucky with BPOs but didn't want to do the production stuff.

Isnt it obvious?

Caldari was the race most people picked because of missiles.

Jita is the most central system in caldari space.

Most people would go to Jita to trade, and hence it became the biggest hub.

Since we introduced the new character creator in Incursion in January 2011, Gallente has been most popular for new characters.

I thought this happened when CCP changed space lane routes - the hub used to be Yulai (oh how I miss thee....) and then CCP changed how high sec systems were connected, changing shipping lanes, and removing Yulai to a low sec island.

The new shipping lanes put Jita more or less centered and at the crossroads of a lot of auto-pilot trips; thus it developed as a major trade hub. Why Jita 4-4, not totally sure but I believe it had the best agents and the most manufacturing slots at the time of this change.
This basically. Yulai used to be awesome, but was killed off with the gate changes. I still have lots of stuff there I believe.

Destination SkillQueue:- It's like assuming the Lions will ignore you in the Savannah, if you're small, fat and look helpless.

2 years ago when I had this very same question, I consulted Google. It worked.

I should add that the main trade hub may change at anytime. You will know if this happens when James 315 issues the decree making it so.

Actually Caldari was the most popular early on due to attributes. When eve started your attribute base was determined by your race and bloodline. One Calari bloodline had a very low charisma, and hence higher everything else. People gravitated to that one to speed skill point acquisition for the more common skills.
Now, it does not matter.

I remember reading somewhere that on the Chinese server Jita isn't the main hub despite having the same universe layout.

Caldari were for a time before and after the Superhighway nerf very popular due to ECM and the Raven with unnerfed missiles.

This is a big hint that certain unfinished things in EvE need finishing.

It's more the access to multiple busy regions by moving 1-2j away from Jita that makes it so popular with people with 50-250 billion ISK (for whom interregional trading is probably one of the most lucrative activities they can engage in).
