Hello,

First time trying Eve for the last week. I am on the 14 day trial and was all set on a subscription until something happened. I invested a ton of time (for me) into my venture to try and get started. I decided to dabble in .2 in order to find better ore to make all these runs more profitable as it was just taking forever with scordite and veldspar. I had all sorts of apprehension doing this so I got my ship to what I thought was capable enough acording to all the you tube videos I have been watching. Anyway, I warp into the stargate in a .2 system going to another .2 and all the sentry guns blew me up to pieces and then destroyed my pod. A little caption the screen said I was wanted for crimes, etc. This makes no sense whatsoever since I have never shot at anyone. Is there something I have done wrong? I thought it had to be a gang of other players at first but it was those guns around the stargate and I am innocent! All that hard work and time for nothing!

Any ideas? I really want to like this game but so far I am not impressed.

Sentry guns will not destroy your pod.

Open your character sheet, click on combat log, then choose 'show losses' from the dropdown. You will see your ship losses there, and when you double click you should see what/who killed your ship and your pod. My guess is that you jumped into a gatecamp and that the message was not directed at you but instead at the people shooting you.

Yep I just did a search on your name on battleclinic and it looks like you were pwnt by a fleet of gatecampers from the shadow cartel alliance.

Lowsec space is dangerous and filled with people ready to violence your boat, so you need to be prepared both financially and psychologically to venture out there. I am not saying you should be afraid of going there, just that you need to be prepared. Think of lowsec as a free for all pvp area, where other players can and will seek you out and destroy you. The only place a 3 day old player has out there is part of a fleet flying a fast throwaway tackle frigate, and definitely not attempting to solo mine in a ship that represents the sum total of ones posessions.

Also, I would like to know what youtube videos led you to the conclusion that taking an unfit venture into low security space would be a good idea?

A. Sentry Guns don't randomly shoot you unless you broke the "law" and got suspect / criminal flag.
B. Sentry Guns (nor any other NPC) will pod you.

Deducing from this, you encountered a gate camp in low-sec that killed you

EDIT:

Just looked at ZB

It was NOT the gate guns, as we suspected you ran into a Tusker / SC gatecamp in Ostingele.

Go to your character sheet > Combat log

Then select the "Show Losses" from the drop down and double click the loss and it will show you that it was players and not gate guns that killed you.

EDIT 2:

It was low-sec, thus more hostile and you should be prepared to lose your ship even more then in high-sec.

They need to start making NPC's pod for the giggles! (Also, and I dont know how true this is... Will sleepers pod you if you stay at a sleeper site long enough? Read somewhere they might but cant remember where or if it said they will or won't).

Anyway OP, you don't get that pop up message saying you're a criminal and you should leave in lowsec. So you are either trolling or you did something that merrited a pop up to ask if you wanted to carry on with the next action as it will cause suspect status. However, looking at your killboard you got popped and podded by Shadow Cartel and had nothing on your ship that would cause that message...so...

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

Now, I am old and my memory is not the best, but I seem to remember when my corp was living in w-space that one of our members went AFK in a low grade site and got his ship exploded and pod popped by the sleepers. Again my memory could be faulty here...

As for the popup, when anyone aggresses another player in empire space, that message does pop up for other people, it just says that players name and not yours. The OP probably did not read the entire message and mistakenly thought it was directed at him.

See, that's something I have heard before regarding sleepers. I knew I wasnt going insane Big smile... I may have to get a corp member to try it at somepoint without external interference.

As for that notification, is it possible to turn them off by mistake because I have never had the 'so and so became a criminal/suspect' in lowsec before. So that ones new to me...

Yup same and I no way agressed a pod and jumped the hisec gate with a timer before...Then I got a notification, amongst other things.

I get the 'warp scramble attempt from X to X' notification in Lowsec, but as far as I remember, I have never had the 'You are wanted for crimes against the state, leave now or be destroyed' in lowsec because thats only when you have really low sec status or really ****** standings with an empire faction (or so I thought). Damn we need someone who knows!!!

Halp! We need an adult!

Haha you could be right, but for the life of me I cant ever remember that message popping up in anywhere other that hisec. But I know what you mean.

I would go to lowsec right now and try it out, but I'm nowhere near an Eve client, so I'm not much use...Sad

Think you guys are refering to the messages when you are in high-sec and someone with low faction standing is jumping into system.

Something in the line of:

"Insert player name" you are not welcome in "insert faction name" space. Be prepared to be hunted or something like that.

Keep in mind, this is in HIGH sec only as even the faction navy is too scared to go into low-sec to protect the claim they have on that system....

In low-sec, you will only get notifications on "on grid" Ewar attempts and your gun notifications.

Yeah that's it!!! It was the following quote from the OP that threw me:

Long story short, OP was attacked by players and died but the way he describes it happening and that pop up message saying he's wanted and a criminal, that part makes no sense. (It would help if the OP would reply though haha Big smile)

I don;t think sleepers pod... i got jumped in a c5 once and hid my pod in a vital gas cloud and laughed as someone probed me down and warped into the 4 bs', too bad it was not a warp scam one. i warped out and came back a few min later as he was booking it and waited them out for another 30 min before they got bored and i jumped home.

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

Cheers for that one. Read a load of stuff saying they don't and a few pilots saying they do, I personally have never tried it so I couldn't say for sure. Damn shame they didnt warp scram him though.

Anyway, I've hijacked this thread long enough. Apologies OP...

You read it wrong. It said "SOMEONE ELSE'S NAME, You have commited bla bla bla". The message will always say "you", even though wha tyou should read is the name on the message and nothing else. If it is not your name, someone else committed a suspect/crime action.
