Why leave data/relic sites unfinished?

Am I playing EVE right, guise?!

Probably not if you're hacking. You don't have to hack the other cans, all you do is activate and close twice. Quite often after de spawning a site I have another site spawn instantly. While I can't be positive it's a respawn the sites will usually spawn as soon as the sig disappears from scanner so IMO it's worthwhile de spawning them. If it doesn't de spawn in the system it spawns somewhere else so not de spawning is really shooting yourself in the foot.

You really should clear the sites completely to be nice to other people.

I won't personally, but I really think you should.

I don't even do data sites anymore.

Not since my battlecruiser became capable of handling 4/10s.

I just undocked for the first time and someone challenged me to a duel. Wat do?

While you are warping to the site where I left cans with junk, I am warping to the site with potentially good loot.

In other words, why would I increase the chance of a competitor going to a site I haven't visited yet?

By spending a few seconds closing the site you start the respawn process earlier thus providing you with a nice new site quicker so you get a higher chance of something half decent.

Relates to topic, I wish loot spew was free for all.

Its sort of unecessary and counter-intuitive in a game focused on competition, that all the cans are somehow magically only be tractorable by that person who ejected them.

But this is null anyways, since apparently loot spew will be removed in the summer.

Btw, whats the limit that causes despawn of the site?
From my cursory nonspecific observations it seems to be when 50% of the sites nodes have been completed.

I have not observed that there is any integral despawn timer activated from warping to, arriving at or scanning the nodes.
(Except at Ghost sites ofc, which are another matter entirely).

Serious question: How do you keep track of the which sites are worthless the next time you run through the area?

I understand the PVP baiting with the last can - but wouldn't it make more sense to leave the best cans in the site? Then the explorer gets all excited about his find -- and BAM. Sweeter tears?

I used to hack all of the cans, but as time has gone on, I can give 3 reasons from personal experience. And I am guilty of all three

1) People only hack the cans with the best loot
2) People get spooked by too many neuts / reds in system and bail
3) Its a trap :)

This exploring stuff sounds a lot more like boring missions than exploring.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

Sometime it's a lot like doing missions while on a tour, other times you get a string of escalations to systems you've not visited before

Eve makes space exploration as boring as it actaully would be in real life.

If I run a site I finish it so that another site will regenerate somewhere - hopefully nearby. But lately, I've found tons of sites that have a few cans left. Not all of the remaining cans are just trash or empty.

Why do people do this?

As a solo explorer, I do not care in the slightest weather the site respawns or not. I consider the chance of it respawning in my path to be small enough that its not worth my time to mess around with every can. If i spent hours in a session combing the same region, i might feel otherwise.

As a member of a corp living in nullsec, I regularly scan out signatures in my home systems and nearby. If I do run a relic/data site, I will take the extra minute or two to explode the leftover cans, simply to despawn the sig. I still am not particularly interested where it may respawn, I'm just trying to do my corpmates a favor by keeping corp bookmarks clean and getting rid of unknown sigs.

I don't. By the time I would return to that area it would have despawned anyway. Or I can just leave a bookmark.

Yes, if I had absolutely zero interest in isk. But a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush.
