Avoiding 3rd Party Scams 101


In recent months there has been an influx of 3rd party scam attempts for super capital transfers. That does not mean they are all scams, that just means there have been more scam attempts than usual. So I will write out my recommendations to avoiding going home broke.

The safest option is to only use the generally accepted 3rd parties: Chribba, Grendell ,Wirox Crotikus , and DJ Bismarck.


Using a 3rd Party not on the above list


On occasion, it may be difficult to reach these 3rd parties as they have real lives outside of Eve. Here you can choose the safe approach and wait for one of the generally accepted 3rd parties. But if you insist on trying another 3rd party that is not on that list, take some serious pre-cautions. This is all completely at YOUR OWN RISK.


  • Do not get rushed into a deal. Frequently the scammer will try and rush you into using his 3rd party because of some excuse that he has to log off or he will give the deal to somebody else.

  • A common trick is to have buyers and sellers set up a meeting with you and a legitimate 3rd party. When the meeting takes place they simply don't show up. They wait until the generally accepted 3rd parties log off, then magically come on-line, giving you every excuse in the book why they were not there. They will then convince you to use some no name 3rd party, which will be their alt or friend.

  • Ask to see their feedback thread. Read every single post in that thread and look for anything suspicious.
    • (That could mean posters are all noob alts, or apart of the same corp/alliance)
    *If there was any moderation done in the thread, check what posts were edited or removed using eve-search

  • A good way to make sure they are legitimate is to see if they will accept Chribba. If they say no, just close the conversation, they are scamming you. There isn't a person in Eve that can argue Chribba isn't reputable enough to handle Super Capital Transactions. If they don't trust me, wirox, etc that's fine, but I'd like to see anyone debate Chribba out as an option.

Hi Grendell.

I would like to make an enquiry about using your services.

I run a Capital BPO Purchase Program HERE. I would like to get some form of audit or security check done by a respectable 3rd party to give me a little more credit.

I would look to provide you with a CEO API for you to inspect my corps assets (control towers, labs, blueprints etc...) and then report your findings in my thread. I realise you cannot say that it is not a scam, but you can verify I have all the infrastructure in place to actually fulfil the service I offer. Hopefully this will go some way towards proving my honest intentions.

I just concluded a six-odd month collateralized loan agreement with Grendell. Some feedback for anyone considering the same:

Pros:

-Quite courteous to deal with, even back when I was starting out with a low balance (mid single-digit billions, rising to mid double-digit billions as the months went on)

-Had no trouble raising cash for loan expansions (once, in particular, I was looking for 30-35B within a week timescale)

-Very competitive interest rates, which was a big part of why I essentially never bothered considering the competition

-Trustworthy - he's had the chance to walk off with collateral worth 10-15B more than the loan amount. Less meaningful when he already handles sums in the hundreds of billions, I know, but it's worth not forgetting.

Cons:

-My only concern would be he was sometimes hard to reach (a couple days on occasion, worst-case several days). I don't know if I happened to contact him at particularly busy times, he had bigger borrowers/clients to focus on, he's particularly busy IRL, etc. This ended up not being a big problem for me as I rarely needed to change loan terms, but if your business needs a highly flexible loan, it'd be worth discussing with him ahead of time.

All in all, should I need a creditor in the future, he'll be the first I contact.

Grendell, mate, did you take a break from the game? For those of you who do not know Mr. grendell here, he is up there with the likes of Chrriba and Darknesss in terms of third party service. Search his name on eversearch and you will find his excellent reputation. He also does bond investment from time to time Big smile
