I've returned to EVE (again) but im still performing poorly on LVL4's in my Megathron, and i could really use some help to improve on the DPS to clear the LVL4's quicker.

Heres my ship:

[Megathron, Rail]
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Tracking Enhancer II
Large 'Accommodation' Vestment Reconstructer I
Armor Kinetic Hardener II
Armor Explosive Hardener II
Armor Explosive Hardener II

Optical Tracking Computer I, Optimal Range Script

Large Micro Jump Drive
100MN Afterburner II

425mm Prototype Gauss Gun, Antimatter Charge L

Hammerhead II x5
Hammerhead II x2

(yes I know its unrigged currently)

Without drones im coming in at 468dps (with my skills) and 2072 Volley hitting at up to 90km with Antimatter. I'm not sure what to change up without switching to blasters (which im a bit hesitant to do as i dont think i could handle the tanking when in the thick of it)

Blasters takes me to just over 600dps. any suggestions on improvement?

Thanks :)

Only thing I can think of is:

Rig the thing, and train T2 guns..

Perhaps some faction MFS..

The fitting isn't bad. Use tracking speed and antimatter till 30km, swap to optimal and antimatter till 50km, then swap to tungsten. I probably would drop the ab or mjd for a extra painter or web, to improve the hit chance of rails at close or medium range. Switch out the medium drones for 2 sentry's and 5 light drones.

If you want to fly a rail ship in the long run, you should consider switching to the Hype, because it can also field 5 sentry drones what help with the low dps output of rail ships. I wouldn't blaster fit it since the range without Null is horrible(it is even with Null, and still less effective for the most part compared to a good sentry/rail setup).

i usually MJD out by the time theyre at 30km Oops

I cant field sentrys yet (5 days of being able to field a Tier 1)

I'll look into a Hyperion, I need to save some Isk first to buy one - although it dosnt look as badass as the Mega :D

With my skills your fit does 530 DPS without drones, with hammers it goes up to 670 DPS. So higher skills definitely would help you (gal BS V, supports for guns/drones). Additionally rigs and probably some compromises to make t2 guns fit (current fit goes 11% over CPU when rails changed to t2).

Faction MFS and (maybe) hardeners probably would help too with fitting and cap but that would make you more interesting for undock scanners so have to take that into consideration.

Hi there,

Just for comparison's sake, I plugged your fit into my PYFA and found the results equally unappetizing. What this tells me is, that neither of us are particularly well placed to do L4s in a BS/Megathron. This could be down to a few things, either our gunnery support skills, such as Surgical Strike etc aren't there yet, our Gallente BS skills aren't there yet or our Large Hybrid Turret Skills aren't there yet.

Either way, there is clearly room for improvement in some or all of those areas, before L4s in a BS will be comfortable and quick for us to do. It goes without saying, that these hulls only really start to shine, once you can also use T2 guns and ammo, with the relevant specialisations trained to at least 4.

So, the most obvious thing to aim for is T2 weapons.

For the sake of interest, an "all V" character in a Megathron would do 739DPS using this fit:

[Megathron, Megathron PvE]

Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Damage Control II
Large Armor Repairer II
Armor Explosive Hardener II
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II

Large Micro Jump Drive

425mm Railgun II, Javelin L
425mm Railgun II, Javelin L

Large Processor Overclocking Unit I

Even then, with the 2 CPU rigs, you would need some sort of implant to be able to fit it, which sucks.

Well you want to spend as much time in antimatter optimal as possible, because rail dps is bad enough with antimatter and for the most part garde IIs are way to go, what makes you look for the 30km ranges even more. I for myself flown a mwd fitted rail Kronos(for like 6 years) before the marauder changes. With the 90% web it was viable at close to, because you could get around the low rail tracking with it.

Btw you don't fit T2 tank mods on a skilled out rail BS, that never did work with megathron hulls by the CPU limitations(with exception of the Kronos, what was original designed around rails instead of blasters). You need faction hardeners and platings to fix the CPU issues that come with the T2 guns.

Thanks for the feedback, I think T2 is the way to progress for sure, for reference;

Lvl 4 Gunnery Skills
Large Hybrid
Surgical Strike
Controlled bursts
Motion Prediction
Rapid Fire
Sharpshooter
Trajectory Analysis

Spaceship Command

Gallente BS 4

I think the addition of Sentries and T2 guns will make a difference, ive been sticking to Meta 4 as im not the richest person int he universe, but i might have to bite the bullet and invest in some more expesive modules to get a bit more out of it.

Also consider switching to a MJD Sentry Dominix, they seem to be popular amongst mission runners at the moment.

An all V character would get 1048 DPS from this fit, incl. sentries, of course. I would also not require implants to fit, unless you wanted larger guns and would be cap stable, without prop mods running.

thanks for the dominix setup - switching out the mods for ones I can use nets me 600dps, looks like i need to train some more to get some tier 2 gear, meta 4 just isnt cutting it.

Broadly speaking, I would say L4s require us to be able to use T2 mods, at least where our ships bonuses are concerned if not throughout. Keep training and have fun!
