I disagree with the notion that a player that avoids combat is not a pvper. "Carebear" is repeatedly redefined by winners and is used as an excuse to demonize and laugh at the losers. Remember that everything in eve is pvpable.. You can't tell if a person is a pvper or not based on whether they avoid combat.

I dont think thats accurate at all. The term "carebear" is not used in any type of derogatory fashion. It is a well known descriptive term used eve-wide for the act of pve-only activities.

And yes... if someone avoids combat to the best of their ability... I think its a safe bet they are not a "pvper".

I stopped being a care bear when my first target (I killed his heron with my magnate) asked me: "Why did you kill me?!? We're both explorers!!!" and the only answer I could think of was: "Ehhhhhmmmmm....... Why not?"

Carebears are warm and soft.

The rest are No Heart, Beastly and Professor Coldheart. They won't hesitate to pod you on Christmas and your Birthday.

How powerful will you be?

You're no longer a carebear when you willingly put a ship at risk, lose it, then go back for more.

Doesn't need to be 'classical' pvp. For example mining or missioning in lowsec, or stealing in highsec, qualify imo.

True carebears, the kind that other carebears even hate are the ones who want the whole game to be friendly to play in and be nice and supportive. So no scamming, no non-consensual PVP, no stealing, etc and will declare that EVE is losing players because of these or that they are not going to sub their accounts anymore till they change, etc. Or at least have hi-sec made into that image.

By all means by most definitions I qualify as a carebear by most peoples standards in that I don't actively seek out PVP, simple reason is I play casually and can't sub my account as easily with kill rights on me when I want to haul goods in hi-sec to pay for my account. And quite frankly my internet connection is crap enough I probably lose my ship more times from a bad internet connection than from an actual fight. I was just disconnected twice on a 20 jump flight to jita for example. So in the meantime I will be training my character for combat so the day I have more free time (and better internet) I can rain hell down upon someone, or die trying.

Welcome to Eve. Everyone here is an Evil Sick Sadistic Bastard who is out to get you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to scam you or use you.

Being a carebear isn't about age or SP, it is a mentality. A way of life, inspired by the risk averse, the lazy, and the entitled. You cease being a carebear only when you realize that you are not special, and that you have no entitlement to anything. Once you realize that nobody owes you anything, you are no longer a carebear.

Things are only impossible until they are not.
