Ship performance in DED sites

So this question probably *has* been asked a million times before but:

I am running a 5/10 DED. I can choose between a HAC, T3 and a battleship. The problem begins right here - breaking it down in to constituent elements we get

1. Lower sig res on cruisers
2. Higher base resists
3. Faster
4. Similar damage with good application

Detracting factors with particular reference to these T2/T3s

1. Smaller tank (though not by very much)
2. Less damage projection (depending on set-up
3. Less cap
4. More susceptible to EWAR

Since NPCs make very poor use of EWAR and are generally quite slow, why would I ever fly a battleship like the TFI which takes nearly a solid year of skilling to fly well compared to a Tengu which takes roughly 5 months?

Am I missing something?

I would say HAC/T3 just for the smaller sig radius and stronger resists if you're going against that faction. It allows you to tank a whole lot more and the difference between a BS and HAC/T3 isn't enough to make up for it imo. Plus if you're on your own out there a BS is very slow and easily caught.

My issue is that when T3's enter the picture, battleships don't bring enough to the table to warrent their use.

Sure they have range but terrible damage application hence the reliance on sentries for *everything*. Infact the only effective missile battleship is the navy raven, the only effective fighting gallente ship is the kronos.

It's not like your average BS does 1500 dps unless very specifically configured to do so.

My issue with the whole thing is that:

T3 means Tengu for anything PVE. You cant do it sanely in anything else. Range and sigtank. Simples.

HAC means Ishter. Colossal DPS, sigtank and speed, Frigate, Cruiser and Battleship class weapons in one ship. Try projecting that damage in any other cruiser, while maintaining all those things. Minmatar have nothing that can do it, Amarr have limited options but ok, Caldari HACs the same. One trick Ponydom of Minmatar crapness strikes again.

BS - Marauder or Domi ...

Domi for that easy reason. MJD and sentries, with same properties as Ishtar. Cheap as well.

Since 5/10 is lowsec, HAC or T3, Tengu and Ishtar are generally at the top of the list, but Sacrilege, Zealot, Deimos, Legion, Proteus, Cerberus deserve honorable mention for also being decent and still maintain the cruiser hull mobility. In terms of pure efficiency a Battleship would likely be the best like a Mach or Rattlesnake or even a Marauder, but flying those in lowsec to do DEDs is generally not a good idea.

the MJD makes battleships a much more viable option in plexes. Battleships do not tank as well otherwise, but they will do better dps. The difficulty in tanking lots of rats and the low mobility while traveling gate-to-gate is the primary problem with battleships in plexes.

If you're already trained for a TFI, then the disparity in SP needs is meaningless.

The versatility of HACs, Ishtars especially, make battleships and some T3s look bleak in comparison. I suggest fitting up a pvp Ishtar, whether it be dual rep or shield nano is up to you, and just run the sites as normal, but stopping to haze anyone that comes in to gank you.
