Battlefield positioning and stuff

Hey

I'm having trouble tackling multiple enemies and was hoping for some pointers.

I did the lvl2 mission "The blockade" last night and thought I played it poorly. I had to warp in and out multiple (20ish or more) times.
Each warp out would require a visit to a repair station.

I felt I could have done much better if I could have got myself into a better position on the battlefield. You tend to warp right into the pack and by the time I had managed to get to where I wanted to be, I would have no shields and half armour left and have to warp out, If lucky I would have taken out a couple of enemies so it was a long long slog.

I'm using the tactical view and setting my "keep at Range" and orbit range appropriate to the ammo/guns I was using. In my desperation to find a plan that worked I was moving from Destroyer with either short or mid range guns/ammo to my cruiser with longer range. However the pack would still swarm me.

I feel If I could get to the edge of the pack and pick them off I would do better, But the cruiser felt kinda slow and I would still end up in the middle of the gang. If I could find a way to warp in to a specific place or find a landmark to warp to I would have more luck.

The only thing I felt good about was moving down to a Rifter when I only had the final guy in a big ship left and could circle him and not take any damage.

Any help or advice would be awesome

Use standard PvE tactics in the Blockade.

1. Speed tanking, stay at range -> Blowing up the webbing tower is the first and most important goal

2. Do not spawn additional groups prematurely -> know the triggers (use EVE-Survival)

3. Separate your enemies -> Every spawn is composed of 2 groups far below and one up and to the side. Use an afterburner to burn to the first goup below, blow them up, take the second group and only after finishing them, go for the bigger third one. Do not even target the trigger until everything else has been removed from the field. Eventually kill the trigger and at once head back to the spawn locations of the two smaller groups.

It's a little bit slower than other tactices but much safer in the beginning.

Edit: Ofc, doing this requires you to use long range weapons Blink.

Remove standings and insurance.

sry my post doesn't explain my problem properly. I try to keep my distance by targeting an enemy and clicking keep at range 20,000, but this doesn't give me much control on what direction I move to, that's what I was hoping for help with. There isn't anything in the area to move towards so I am left with trying to keep at range from an enemy. Frequently though, this just pushes me into the pack instead of away from it. And by the time all the farting about is done, I have no shields and half armour,
I am sure there is a better way to do this,, I'll just keep messing until something works

Just double click with your mouse in empty space into the direction you want to go.

If there are targets you can go to, there's also the possibility to right click them and use approach.

Edit: Also have a look at this video!

This!

Also, the blockade is in normal space, there's no acceleration gate, so instead of warping at 0, you can "warp at" a distance that suits you. You can also warp within the mission to any wreck, beacon, asteroid or object.

Sounds like your tank isn't strong enough. Are you active or passive tanking? And what fit are you using?

Im active tanking my shields appropriate to the damage i'm facing, with as much as my limited skill points, ship systems and cash allow

I did look for a way to warp in at a distance but there want the option in the mission location tab, the next time I get a similar problem Ill look harder.

ty all

the thread should probably die now as I have enough to be getting on with, I think not using the tactical view exclusively and double clicking in space is going to help

Great advice here but although mentioned i want to stress a few points.
In small ships you need an afterburner as moving quickly with a small sig will make it harder for rats to shoot you and thus this forms an important part of your tank.
When running missions you absolutely must use long range weapons so you can blap stuff quickly without it getting too close. Many rats do a lot more damage at close range.
Make sure your hardeners are mission specific. ie when fighting guristas make sure you use mainly kinetic hardeners with maybe one thermal.
Make sure ammo is correct for mission.
Eg vs Guristas try and shoot them with kinetic ammo.

Also try pressing CTRL+D while in space to turn on the tactical overlay. This helps you see exactly where ships are in relation to your ship, because 3D space makes that kind of difficult otherwise.

I don't think it's available from the mission location dialog, right click in empty space and the mission will appear as an encounter IIRC, there should be a warp to at distance option in the sub menu for it. It doesn't work for missions with acceleration gates so you only get a warp to 0 given for them.

It's how we used to do it before the newfangled stuff up in the top left of your screen.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

"The blockade" is a somewhat tough mission, but a very easy one to dictate your position in. Because it is ungated, you can warp to bookmarks. So bookmark some wrecks! I used an arty Hurricane for this mission in combination with these bookmarks. Because you can warp on range of them, and can come from any direction, dictating your position becomes a lot easier.

The blockade can be rough... The addition on mjd and the bastion mode on marauders made the mission easy mode to the point where I forgot how annoying it could be until I was messing around the other day in a HAC doing missions (boredom, what can I sayRoll). The key is to properly locate the triggers and take them out last, which turns a bastard of a mission into something manageable.
