Solo Blackbird?

I don't have a lot of experience with this ship and thought it would be fun to tinker around with some possible solo fits.

1) Does **** all for dps
2) Is it plausible to fly with only two jammers? (switching out when needed)

[Blackbird, Blackbird fit]

Medium Rudimentary Energy Destabilizer I (for obvious reasons)
Small 'Vehemence' I Shockwave Charge (Drones, but not sure if its really needed)
[Empty High slot] (not sure which weapon system to go with here)
[Empty High slot]

Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive
Warp Disruptor II
ECM - Phase Inverter I (switch out when needed. was just comparing strengths)
ECM - Phase Inverter II
X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator
Small Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Cap Booster 200 (swapped to a small for powergrid issues but will burn through 200's like no ones business)

Small Armor Repairer II (***** and giggles)
400mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I (Roughly doubles actual armor health without too much speed/agility loss)

[Empty Rig slot] (Ay a loss for these two empty rigs slots, thinking another Particle Dispersion Augmentor)
[Empty Rig slot]
Medium Particle Dispersion Augmentor I

My two biggest concerns is the smartbomb and powergrid issues related to weapons/cap booster.

Thoughts?

What exactly are you hoping to kill with this? Most players will assume a solo blackbird is with a fleet, and thus, if they engage it will be because they are confident they can kill the blackbird and not worry about backup - in which case they can deal with ECM and your fragile two-jammer blackbird will die a quick and painful death.

Alternatively, if you're hunting non-pvpers, then there are plenty of ships that will provide more DPS/Tank/nueting ability, and your ECM is relatively useless because you don't need the GTFO out factor versus ships fit for PvE.

IMHO, there are viable solo blackbird fits, but they rely on boosted/ganglinked active shield tanks to really be viable. Pure buffer fits because you know you're being primaried in a small gang are also fun.

As for your setup, the complete lack of DPS is what really kills it for soloing. Even if you get someone to engage you under sentries, your chances of getting a kill versus anything with any form of DPS or tank is slim. You may be able to solo cruisers but it will be a long and painful process - the only plus side is the jammers will most likely let you gtfo out from bait situations. But thrown on some small blasters in the highs and give it a shot, blackbirds are cheap and your fit is off the wall enough that you might get some hilarious kills.

How about dropping the smartbomb for another gun. The web for another ecm and the sar for a dcu ii?

Edit:

Not too keen on dropping the web despite the ecm gain.

Im hoping to catch.frigates/dessies/cruisers, but mostly frigates. With (hopefully) enough ecm to break tackle if a gang shows up.

Bad idea. I've tried to get a decent solo fit out of the Blackbird before, got so-so results but the conclusion I came to was that balancing ECM strength with decent buffer, tackle and DPS is all but impossible on this hull.

Low buffer means dying horribly when you miss a cycle (or get drone aggro)
Low DPS means a longer fight and more chance for missing a cycle (then see above ^) and for their friends to show up.
Low ECM strength means more chance of missing a cycle (duh) and promptly insta popping.
Poor tackle ability means you'll have a tough time catching anything and/or holding it down in the first place.

If the Blackbird had another mid or low I'd probably give it a go, but the hull just isn't built for this.

Amongst all the other problems you'll find that very few people will be willing to take on an ecm ship by themselves.

Which is a lot of the reason the Rook doesn't work as well as you'd think solo.

closest I have gotten is an inty assisted kill on a falcon. Inty was bored and needed dps if he tackled. I was bored and said wtf....not like I haven't died to a covert cyno party to save the recon before in case things went sour. We lucked out, one dead falcon.

Blackibird mght get some bites since it can't pack a cyno (covert or other wise) but most don't dig long battles riding out jam cycles. Me I'd be wondering when that local spike would be hitting soloing an ecm boat solo. Why I'd avoid most times tbh.

Or something like that if you want to get really creative and hunt frigs. The problem of 'people not going to solo a BB' persists, but you might convince a few optimistical types.
Just a quick theory, haven't tried it in practice.

I've flown the Blackbird before to know well enough that it's just an E-war ship. If it's solo-fitted then it's best used as a gate runner in low-sec because the compliment of ECMs will help it escape being tackled. In fact, its bonus is focused on ECM. Use that to your advantage instead and see if you can get some friends to come with you on some small-gang pvp.

PS: Unless you intend to lose that ship, don't fly it into a pvp situation.
