You should post in here more often, NCQA sees a lot of threads relating to PvP and other shenanigans that could use more input from players experienced in those fields.

Quick post cus i'm on my phone..

1. Drakes aren't scary. There was a time (when they had even more tank, bit less dps) when everyone and their dog flew a drake for the same reasons you outlined. During this time most other PvPers quickly learned how to easily kill them, and most of these strategies remain true to a great extent. You will not find many ships in eve that make people scatter in the fashion your CEO discribed, especially if flown by a new player.

2. The people you spoke to sound like morons. Drop me a mail if you want silly questions answered or want to fly with people who won't treat you like an ass.
