Can I have fun in a Hel ?

Hey guys,

I sort of have a problem/question fundamental in being able to enjoy EVE, so let me introduce myself first.

I've been playing EVE on and off since 2007 or 8.
I usually get jaded in EVE every now and then, leaving the game for a year or so at a time. Maybe more PVP would keep me hooked on EVE on a more constant basis, but I generally find that I can't afford to PVP more than PVE, ISK-wise.

Usually, my goals in EVE are very ship-look-centric. It's hard for me to keep playing if I don't have a "favorite ship" in mind to keep striving for.

At first, it was the Hurricane, so I just grinded missions while maxing out any Hurricane related skills because all I ever wanted was to be good in a Hurricane until the end of time. Roll
This was way back when EVE had the old graphics before the major overhaul. God, I miss the old graphic Hurricane look. Although technically updated with superior graphics, I think they somehow lost the soul and feel of the old one, which was a darker black ship laden with tiny light specks in the creases of the armor. The new one sports much simpler and larger panel armors while missing the tiny window specks. I can't even find an image of the old Hurricane anymore.

Anyway, it just didn't feel as fun flying the new Hurricane when the graphic overhaul came out and I needed to fly something bigger to make isk faster anyway, so I set my eyes on the Abaddon next. I had some good times with the Abaddon. But then, CCP decided to "update" the look of the Abaddon as well. Big smile They put some gold highlights on the tip and head of the ship, which totally killed the look for me.

So I went on to the Vindicator, which was great for anything in hi-sec, but way too expensive for doing anything in a wormhole, where I now live because... you can only play EVE for so long living in hi-sec the whole time...

Now I mostly use the Loki out of necessity, but feel like I'm nearing another hiatus in EVE. I would have already quit again had I not been training to eventually fly a Hel, which has always been the coolest looking ship for me since the old Hurricane days, if not totally out of my grasp for financial reasons.

I would totally keep playing EVE to eventually fly a Hel, but am not sure I'd want to strive for one if it is a completely inefficient and nonviable ship just for the sake of flying a cool looking ship.

From what I've read, it seems like a pretty bad choice for a supercarrier because excelling at sitting by and repping POS shields seems like a pretty boring EVE life to me...

Are there any Hel or supercarrier pilots out there that know how to have fun in a Hel without having to curse at its ship bonuses every time you fly one?

Don't do this. That is an example of a bad idea (and a whole lot of unnecessary quoting).

Just give me your stuff on the way out the door. This is an example of a good idea and one you should definitely follow.

I think if you started flying a Hel that would maybe make you EVE's first Hel pilot. Maybe you could get special recognition for it on the monument in Iceland?

You can use it to speed tank a phoenix!

You will certainly enjoy your Hel... and then be amused when some laughably smaller ship starts attacking you... followed by 5 seconds of confusion when a beacon appears on the ship... and 20 seconds of sheer terror.

No, but you can dine in it

(2 stupid analogies, guess what they are :P)

Well I am not an expert but I get it from good sources that the hel is the best ship for dropping solo on ratting carriers (fastest align time, and you usually kill them before you are fully aligned). Extremely risky but the most amounts of fun ever.

Can we all just agree that the Archon is the best ship in the game yet, guys? Smile

Train up to a titan, get in a big alliance and hopefully they will put you in one. Then you can log in once or twice a year for a epic staged battle and never have to worry about taking a hiatus or getting bored in eve again Blink

How to have fun in a Hel

Step one buy and download Space Engineer

Build the Hel to scale in the game.

Have fun in it.

It is what I did.

I had plenty of fun in my Hel... for about the first week then I didn't log it in again. I swear more people try to kill it than revenants. Must be rarer or something.

Sigh. Nah, the moon orbits too fast, it too can speed tank the phoenix.

SHHH! If its any good it gets nerfed. Have you learned nothing about Fozzies road to uniformity (mediocrity)?

The Archon is a horrible ship, truly bad...I am not currently skilling for one nor have a vested interest in status quo (just like that tracking Moros I was skilling for before it got nerfed....

Good thing that stellar objects in EVE don't move. I mean just think how little damage a Phoenix would do to a moon if it actually orbited at 1km/s. Cry

Well, I guess it does have ALL the right supercarrier elements to be a prime target in and out of fleet fights.

Highest rep, weakest tank, least built, much less flown.

It might as well be a cheap understatted Revenent. lol

Perhaps wins EVE's most unflyable non-faction ship award. Roll

Just fly one on the test server and get it out of your system that way.

As for the being bored thing ... upsizing is rarely any help. If anything you are more likely to revive your fading interest by grabbing an assault or fraction frigate and roaming lowsec or, even better, a cloak fitted interceptor and go ninja looting in bluesec just for the lulz of the panic it will cause.

Once you're flying in a supercarrier, there is little chance to get off.
So why not change another ship?there are plenty of cool ships in EVE.try to find them out.Big smile
