Hi there,

I play online games for over 10 years, been in all the major mmorpgs etc, but who cares, heres what.

Most games dont disconnect when you have an internet shortage for a couple minutes.

EvE gets socket closed immediately.

Well my suggestion is to change this, and instead of immediately disconnect our client from the server, create an acceptable delay to receive an answer from our computer before you completely disconnect us.

Id say, 2 or 3 minutes.

Thanks

PS: This is not a suggestion for the community to vote or not, its more directed to the devs has its got no impact on people without internet shortages, but if youre one of them you can show your support anyway.

Yes please!

Even a 1 or 2 minute buffer would be nice, but insta disconnect is really tedious.

So let's imagine a PVP scenario with a 2 minute "buffer" that you are asking for.

Player A has a ****** internet.

Player B has a decent connection.

So player A and B get into a nice 1 on 1 battle.

Both players are running sniper fits.

They both start firing guns from 100km. The fight is going well and fairly even. Suddenly Player A inflicts a couple wrecking hits! Player B is in to hull and is in trouble!

Just then, Player A loses internet connection and remains offline for 1 minute and 30 seconds.

Player B, warps off trying to avoid losing his beloved ship.

Player A is disconnected, but is in "buffer" and sees on his screen that he has destroyed the enemy (he had no communication to the EVE server while in buffer so was not aware that B warped off).

So tell me, how is this handled with this magic buffer you have imagined?

Crime, it is not a "career", it is a lifestyle.

1st,

What the heck are you talking about?

Now to answer your non sense post,

The person that disconnects will just stop receiving any data from pilot,.. his ship will remain doing what its doing for that time.

So in your example, if the player A is firing, it will keep firing for the whole time until whether its pilot connection gets back and recieves different commands or the waiting time ends.

How is this so hard to understand to you?

It is you who are confused. Go read it again.

Player A would see themselves destroy their enemy, when in fact B had warped off. So now that connection is re-established, how does one deal with the fact that Player A has seen their enemy die, and yet they did not?

This is the very reason that real-time MMO's do not buffer for minutes at a time.

Listen here, if you never experienced what Im talking about why are you even giving your opinion if you have no knowledge?

For the player A his screen would stay static, or sort of a temporary message pops up saying you have been disconnected from the server, for example:

" you have been disconnected from the server" with a timer on the bottom for you to reconnect.

And when you reconnect, then the screen adjusts to what really happened.

Exactly what happens NOW when you lag while landing, the screen keeps adjusting.

So go ahead an remove yourself from this thread, as you can see you are completely clueless about this, and your posts seem nothing but trolling posts to me.

Thanks

I was not trolling. I merely misunderstood what you were asking for, and for that I apologize. You could make an effort to keep discourse civil; or you could continue to be an abrasive asshat. Your choice.

Are you sure this isn't just a TCP vs UDP thing?

the entire enemy support fleet is dead except for one interdictor a titan could easily finish off with drones  - Commander Ted

I think what they're getting at is that when you lose your socket connection, you have to re-start the client (Sometimes having to re-log in the process) which takes time, time which you want to get back in quickly, as you have two minutes of your ship afk in space before it'll logwarp.

I don't think he's expecting his client to continue receiving the information etc? If he is, then my bad, herp derp.

The thing that bugs me most is when my internet goes down, I cant quit the game, it just hangs.

Fix that.
