I worked up the manufacture cost on a procurer and, well, they sell for ~16M and materials for one is over 21M.

Can someone enlighten me on the economics at work here? I really confused.

Old Stock, increases in Price of Minerals because I short term shortages of minerals due to but fleet fights and lost Caps/SuperCaps

A 5% increase in mineral prices doesn't account for a 32% price difference.

Also the price and manufacture cost was about the same a month ago when I first checked on costs. I just looked at it again today out of curiosity.

I think the real answer is rampant stupidity.

Yep, it is almost like some people after being told still can't learn.

Like Caldari 5 said it is old stock. See all those materials listed as 'extra'? those weren't there when all those procs were made.

They used to be supercheap to make, so many people made thousands of them.

That was back in summer 2012, before barge rebalancing. Since not that many Procurers die, expect this to last for some time (years).

Remove standings and insurance.

Back before Inferno 1.2 (think it was that expansion), Procurers (and other barges) cost significantly less to build. People built thousands expecting a large payout once prices increased. For the other two barges, price did increase. For the Procurer not so much because of lower demand.

Same thing with a couple of the battlecruisers, same reason.

A friend is still selling the ones he made for like 8m. He's only got a few thousand of them left to sell. Roll

The procurer /used/ to cost 2 million to make. (Pre, uh, Retribution, iirc)

It now has a build cost of 21 million.

So, someone selling at 16 million is making a 700% profit. Not as nice as a three order of magnitude profit, but it's enough for people to want to cash out. Eventually it'll fill out. Not any time soon.

Woo! CSM XI!

Everyone gave all the reasons above for what you see. I personally bought about 20 before the patch and sold them after for less than post patch cost but still made a decent profit.

If you want to make isk on them, buy them all up under cost and relist them. I have a feeling though supply will outstrip demand and you will want to move them for a loss than have all that capital tied up in your hanger. All depends on your business model. Long term it might work.

Yea, that was a while back, but would be the most logical answer I think?

Along with all the other comments that is.

If you're serious, and your friend is still selling, could you send me the name?

I acquired thousands of these last year. I forget where I put them, but thanks for the reminder.
