So looking at my alliance page I have always noticed the table which says Dictatorial and the attribute says no.

Does this do anything? Or is it a leftover from earlier eras?

As opposed to democratic.
As far as I know the box is just for flavor; it doesn't have any effect by itself to my knowledge.
It just represent whether you have a single leader or determine things by votes.

Every corporation in an alliance can pledge to a ruler. So I wouldnt be surprised if this has to with that mechanic:

All corps pledge for same corp = Dictatorial is yes.
Corps pledge for more then 1 corp = Dictatorial is no.

Just my hunch and dont string me up on the nearest tree if it is not the case..
