Is datacore farming worth it?

I'm wondering if datacore farming is still worth it?

I probably already have the standings and the skills (or I would only need a short few days to get there).

My question is, how much isk can you generate with it? How much time do you have to invest in it?
Like do you have to fly around the galaxy 50 jumps+ to collect all the datacores (the agents are spread out, or far away from my home system etc.), or do you need to collect them every day etc.?

On another note about PI:

I calculated that if I train my PI skills, and I'm producing P1-P2 items in High sec it would probably less than 10-20m isk per hour (hauling stuff around, restarting extractors etc.) and it would have a hard cap on maximum income possible (you can't have more than 6 planets per char), I did not make the calculations on higher PI levels (like P4 might be profitable, but it would require a few hundred mill investment an probably max skills I guess).

If you already have the skills then you might as well get the agents running and collect the datacores once or twice a year. I couldn't tell you what the monthly income is but it's pretty pathetic. Look at the price of Nuclear Physics cores in JIta and think about 1 a day, even the better cores are only twice the price of the lowest.

I had a look at that link and as it said right at the start, datacore farming was going to get the nerf bat and it did, hard :)

I wouldn't advise any one to train the skills from scratch as that is like a 6 week skillpoint investment (roughly 1.5m sp ?) for a terrible return.

If have the skills and standings already (personal standings to the corp, faction don't count anymore) and you have the agents nearby and you are doing invention then yes, otherwise no.

Last time I looked it was less than 22m per month with 5 agents.

I've not bothered to collect my datacores in probably a year (more?).

Note to self pickup my datacores....

I have found the website mentioned an did my own calculations. I saw that I can make around 3.5m isk per month per agent, at best with my (almost) current skills on the current market.

That is really peanuts (I'm giving away more ISK in a month for charity), but it is free money... why would I say no to it. Big smile

And besides 2 of my best R&D agents are almost in next door star sytsems... I really have no idea why I didn't start to collect datacores sooner. ^^

Meh... it is hardly worth the effort:

After 2 years of accruing RP, I have 400+k RP.
1 Datacore costs 100 RP and 10k isk.
So I can pickup 4000 Datacores, spending 40m isk.

I can sell them for 125k each, making about 460m isk.

That's 75% of the value of a plex, or about 3 weeks of game time. I spent 2 weeks training up my characters to use the RP agents.

Somehow I don't feel like I've gained much.

If you do not intend to farm the cores just to cut back on invention cost, you might as well not bother. I personally do occasional invention jobs, but it's more or less a matter of having the skills and slots available to me anyway. So the farming of datacores is really a minor cost reduction on something I do sporadically. Just farming the cores to make liquid ISK is not really worth the SP investment.

You'd make more iSK mining, rather than traipsing around the galaxy picking up your data cores.

^^^ pretty much this. I had just finsihed training for datacores when CCP nerfed them in to the ground. I haven't picked mine up in months., I probably shoould.

They killed datacore farming completely. So completely that the whole process of getting the agent, etc is a waste of time. Not even the most hardcore industrialist could find much value in doing it anymore. Oh wait. Several of those old school, hardcore industrialist have already said exactly that in this thread! It's a good example of CCP over-nerfing.
