In the forms of the character bazaar. They make a few bucks on every character transfer, be it through PLEX or real cash.

How long until they start selling 500k/2.5m/5m/25m/50m/100m SP packages?

Wont be long with the cream of the crop games coming out in the near future. The only people that will stay are the ones that have too much of their lives invested in this game. Nothing will draw new people in when there will be other games that aren't a spreadsheet are available.

Seeing as how they don't sell SP, you'll probably have to wait a very very long time for that…

How long till they start selling ban tokens for use on the forum? Buy a token and you get to ban someone.

Now that would be useful.

Because no net SP was added to the game. CCP is facilitating the exchange of SP between players, essentially enabling SP to become commoditized.

You're not selling SP either, you're selling characters. How the SP is arranged greatly affects the value of the character.

No SP is created in this process. The character that is transferred earned its SP legitimately.

Aside from which it is important to realize SP in EVE is nothing like XP in other games. It accumulates even if you do nothing and with multiple character training you can accumulate SP on up to 3 toons on a single account at once without doing anything but log in weekly to check skill cues.

I suppose technically you can "buy" SP ... just pay for a years subs and ignore the account aside from updating skill queues :D

IMPORTANT CONCEPT: In other games a highly skilled toon is a sign of many many hours of dedicated play. In EVE you can have a highly skilled toon without ever undocking a ship. SP is a not a way of gaining "street cred" in EVE.

At least we have SP. In SC there will be no SP and on day one you can fly a carrier.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

Tippia, given that you've made some valuable contributions to the community (I'm using your newbie skill plan for a friend of mine ATM), I hesitate to call you a troll, but you sure are a pedant!

While you are technically correct in your statements, you are (needlessly) crafting arguments based on technicalities while merrily ignoring the obvious end results.

I would argue that you can buy SP. I have purchased two characters off the bazaar and sold one. Yes, no game mechanics were circumvented, but the end result is very similar. The only difference between bazaar and selling SP is that you can't pick the name, race, gender, and exact allocation of skills. You still get SP that you didn't have to wait for.

While I don't sell PLEX to acquire in-game items, I did sell PLEX to get those two characters. Since CCP is quite clear about them retaining ownership of players' characters and the RL cash I spent on those PLEX went straight into CCP's coffers, I think it's hard to argue that CCP isn't selling SP/characters, even if indirectly.

There is a big difference between trading characters and selling SP.

Those characters train at the same potential rate as everyone else...
Those character's history follows with them (standings, etc)...

At the end, players are trading their characters for plex... this doesn't new SP, it simply transfers character management from one person to another. CCP benefits from it, and both the players selling the character and the person buying the character benefit from it. As a fourth party, the character trading has NO EFFECT on me... the character existed, with all its SP and stats before the transfer, and exists in the exact same state after the transfer. Who manages the character is irrelevant, as it could compete with me equally before and after the character trade.

To be honest multi-character training is a lot more like selling SP than the character bazaar ever was.

But seriously ... given that SP in EVE is created by time spent subbed rather than player effort grinding mission/instances .. all SP in EVE is actually "bought".
